watching suggs last second shot as i was watching on tv bought back a memory i told here before but it wasn't a glass swish like i thought at first. i immediately went to my facebook message and sent a message to leon chesire .
it was 1995 or 1996 we are playing our Catholic hs rival team in our conference at there gym . they are 11-0 in their gym and something like 33-0 at home the past 3 years .. with 6 seconds left i'm down 2 points with the ball under the others teams basket.. i have 90 feet to go.. but the clock never stopped after my time out of course the home team scorer keepers let the clock run out the refs went over to the score table and put 6 seconds on the clock ,, at least 10 seconds should of been put back as i was arguing with the refs and table i could hear my opposing coach say '' i want 2 guys doubling leon ' i was pretending to still argue the clock but my ears where now trying to listen the other coach .. the scorers table is right next to the table there was no way i was going to get 10 seconds back on the clock but i always practiced last second plays thank you al mcguire and hubie brown .. those 100 of basketball clinics paid off.
i had leon take the ball out .. he was 6'5 gd who was a deadly shooter and an arch on his shot that made a reggie miller arch look normal . leon in practice would always shoot half court shots and hit maybe 3 out of 10 he would aim for the box behind the rim .. anyway he passes it in and my gd flips the ball to him at the ft line leon takes one or two steps and maybe a few feet before halfcourt line shoots .. everyone in the gym thinks his shot is going over the basket onto the stage .. but i kinda step on the court to see if its on line it is ,, the buzzer goes off as the ball hits the box and swishes in glass swish game over we win gotta runn back later

halfcourt line shoots .. everyone in the gym thinks his shot is going over the basket onto the stage .. but i kinda step on the court to see if its on line it is ,, the buzzer goes off as the ball hits the box and swishes in glass swish game over we win .. we knew if the ball was on line it had a chance.. it was a perfect glass swish.. hit the glass backboard and never hit the rim swish .. we win and team celebrates. i don't celebrate ... go over to the opposing coach and shake his hand .. show very little emotion but inside i'm jumping for joy . huge win and upset .. next day we made back headlines of newspapers ' sl upsets bhs on 60 foot buzzer beater ' ' their coach says '' its tough when you get beat by a lucky shot'' i cut the article out of the newspaper and all day in school don't say anything except to my fellow teachers.. at practice after school i read the article to the team ' lucky .. we end practice every day on that play and 2 more.. every single day we don;t do the famous suicide drill that about 99% of coaches do to end practice we practice on last second full court, mid court and under the basket plays . it was leons 3rd or 4th mid court shot he had made.. in fact 2 nights after that shot he hit another mid court shot at halftime.. luck it wasn't luck i said it was a glass wish .. leon said ' no coach it hit the rim after the glass.. so after texting i looked at the shot again leon was right it wasn't a glass swish it did hit the rim i texted leon and said ' you are right ' he responded i know coach and it wasn't luck.. suggs does practice shooting half court shots .. there might of been some luck involved but it wasn't all luck sorry had to leave for easter dinner so couldn't finish story
