picks a miserable 3-7 yesterday, dropping overall record to 52-43-2. an ugly tend has developed with large saturday cards as yesterday's flop takes picks to eleven games under .500 on saturdays. it's obvious that the large slates are muddling my handicapping instead of providing opportunities for sharp play. i promise to work on correcting this for upcoming weekends.
haven't finished today's games yet but i have found one game that i consider a strong play.
new orleans -4-: i try to follow monte towe's privateers because the coach was a former schoolmate of mine. monte has a young team that continues to improve, as evidenced by their one point win over lsu. they played reasonably well in dropping their first home game to w ky on friday - they were within six with six minutes to play. the are 5-8 su but have played only three home games, and are a respectable 3-2 ats. this will be their first game lined as a favorite.
mtsu has a world of problems right now. they have spent the xmas holdays touring the south, this game being the fourth of five consecutive road games since dec. 15. in losing at s ala friday night they were without the services of star guard tommy gunn (top ten boxscore name) and backup derek glaspar. both went home to the northeast for xmas and were unable to rejoin the team because of the snowstorm. word is that gunn got into new orleans last night; no word on glaspar. having not touched a basketball since before the holiday will have to affect gunn's play. this can't be good news for the blue raiders who have lost their last 16 conference games and also lost their last 16 road games. needless to say blue raidrs are 0-3 ats on the road this year. so what we're looking at here is a conference road game at new orleans, a team that mtsu has never beaten in seven tries. i'll call this a two unit play although it's likly my personal interest might exceed this a little.
i might have one or two more a little later this morning.
