a good start yesterday crashes and burns to finish 5-6 for the day as the slump continues. overall now 72-62, 5-2 dp's. going back to risky propositions to try to turn things around, including two plays in a holiday tournament three-games-in-three-days scenario. that's right, the very same situation that i bitched and moaned about after the san juan shootout. but no double plays this time, just trying to shake things up a bit. for today:

col -8: buffs are just so much bigger, stonger and deeper than loy-chi, and i think that should be an edge in a three day format like this. loy-chi now in sixth road game in two weeks, all dd losses. i would expect col to kill them on the boards.

uncc -9-: i bet valuist loves this play, 49ers being what they have been as a home favorite. but it seemed like the cajuns hit the wall in the second half against loy-chi yesterday, blowing a big dd lead to an overmatched team. also, laf's big gun anthony johnson turned his ankle in yesterday's game and sat out most of the second half. short turnaround not good for the bad ankle scenario. also, uncc brings back 6-8 tony reed today after sitting him the last two games on an academic suspension.

se mo +27-: creighton goes to cincinnati on tuesday to meet xavier and has absolutely no incentive to pour it on se mo who, for all their shortcomings, is not that bad of a team.

glta, and be carefulout there.

two more:

two more:

sw mo +3: neither coach has been pleased with his team's play so far coming into this conference opener. after the poor showing at se mo, coach hinson ran his team through seven hours of practice on thursday, came back with a 5:45 am practice on friday that ran six hours, and promised his team another practice at 12:01 am monday if they dropped this game. that's what i call motivation. in any event, this game should go down to the wire and the spread may be the difference.

uncc/ullaf over 142: don't expect much d from either of these teams today.

kycapper, i made the line at pep -2, so no edge for a play for me, though obviously that hasn't meant much of late. wore the 0 fer 3 collar again on the charlotte tourney, so much for lessons learned. only missed the side and total on the uncc game by a combined sixty points or so.

valuist, i hear you out there shaking your head about that uncc game. did you notice the total shoot up about four points just before gametime, that is right before the 49ers come out and score 18 first half points on 19% shooting aginst a mediocre defensive team like ul-laf? fatigue is the likely explanation, but the pattern makes you wonder, doesn't it?
