Game: New York Mets at Cincinnati Reds Jul 20 2008 1:15PM

Prediction: New York Mets

Reason: Going against Reds starter Volquez in his first start after his All-Star Game appearance. The METS are 36-22 against the money line vs. an NL starting pitcher whose WHIP is 1.250 or better over the last 2 seasons. CINCINNATI is 48-66 against the money line in home games vs. good baserunning teams - averaging 0.85 or more SB's/game since 1997. Take the N.Y. Mets!

Jimmy The Moose comp

Game: Cleveland Indians at Seattle Mariners Jul 20 2008 4:10PM

Prediction: over

Reason: The over is 9-3 in the Indians last 12 games overall. Cleveland has played the over in 7 of their last 8 road games. The over is 16-7 in their last 23 games as a favorite. The over is 5-2-1 in Lee's last 8 road starts vs. a team with a losing record. The Mariners have played the over in 3 of their last 4 games. The over is 4-0 in Silva's last 4 starts as a home dog. The team's have played the over in 4 of their 5 meetings this season and this one will do the same. Play the over.

GAME: Kansas City Royals @ Chicago White Sox Jul 20, 2008 2:05PM

EXPERT: Marc Lawrence

SPORT: Major League Baseball Picks

PICK: Chicago White Sox

Offered at: -162 5Dimes

REASON FOR PICK: Play On: Chicago White Sox w/Danks vs Bannister
Note: The White Sox wrap up a division series with the Royals in Chicago this afternoon when John Danks takes on Alan Bannister at Comiskey Park.

Danks loves hurling this time of the year as evidenced by his 6-1 career record in July, including 4-0 at home. He's also 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA in his career team starts against the Royals. With Bannister sporting an 8.14 ERA on the road this season and Danks 8-4 with a 2.35 ERA in day starts this year, we'll stay at home with the Pale Hose here today.

We recommend a 1-unit play on the White Sox with Danks vs. Bannister.

L.A. Dodgers at ARIZONA (-150)Bobby Maxwell

If there's one thing the D'Backs have been able to count on this season it's ace Brandon Webb (13-4, 3.37 ERA). They'll count on him to end this three-game set with the Dodgers in style today as they beat Los Angeles in the finale.

Arizona hasn't been able to count on an inconsistent offense, or its bullpen, but they are 14-6 when Webb goes out to the mound and he's 6-1 at Chase Field in Arizona. They can also count on him dominating the Dodgers. He hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in a game against Los Angeles since 2004 - a string of seven starts, three of which have been shutouts.

In four starts against the Dodgers last season he gave up a grand total of three runs in 29.1 innings of work and the D'Backs have won seven straight times he's faced Los Angeles.

Derek Lowe (7-8, 3.85) goes for the Dodgers and he is just 2-4 on the road this season with a 4.85 ERA and the opposition is hitting .349 off him. The Dodgers are just 1-3 in his last four starts in Arizona but he did hold the D'Backs to one run on three hits in five innings back in April as the Dodgers got an 8-3 home win.

We're playing Arizona tonight because the D'Backs are 24-9 in Webb's last 33 home starts and 25-10 in his last 35 starts overall. Play Webb and the D'Backs tonight.

A?s vs. Yankees 1:05 p.m. est.
Oakland starter Duchscherer is 6-2 in his last 8 starts and the Athletics have won 6 of 9 in Yankee Stadium. The Yankees lefty Pettite is just 1-6 versus the A?s and our complimentary call in Sunday Major League Baseball action is #917 Oakland Athletics.

Matt Rivers

Sunday take the Cubs in Houston.

Ryan Dempster has not been the same pitcher on the road as at home and Brandon Backe is coming off of that gem in Washington but I do not believe that the Houston righthander will be able to repeat that feat here and will therefore back Dempster and the visitors from the Windy City.

I have no issues with the talented Astros as there is an upside there but all in all the Cubbies are the superior team, with or without the banged up Kerry Wood, and Dempster overall has been really good this season. The sinkerballer has had some issues on the highway but he is still more trustworthy to me than Backe.

Last time out the Houston starter was great in Washington but when push comes to shove Backe is a mediocre hurler who should come right back down to Earth here as the Law of averages kicks in showing what he is.

Look for Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez to get their hacks in and in the end Dempster to get another road victory.

Colorado Rockies -1 1/2 Runs

On the verge of a four game sweep the Rockies are in great shape for the sweep thanks to being at home and going with their ace in Cook. Yep already knowing how he was before his masterful All-Star performance it is Cook who gives the Rockies their best shot at winning on any given night. After all thanks to his 11-6 record that supports an ERA of 3.57 Cook looks good to get his 12th win tonight against a Pittsburgh team that has been blasted by the Rockies over the last 3 days by a combined score of 17-6 with all three games coming by 2 or more runs for Colorado. Flat out thanks to the Rockies having won 8 of their last 9 at home and going with their ace today I look for nothing less then a Rockies blowout win.

All Colorado -1 ? Runs!

Tony Weston

The Mets and Reds let me down with the total yesterday, but I?m heading back to that series, but I?m switching gears as I?m going with New York to get over on Cincinnati.

New York comes into this game 6-4 its last 10 road games and is 13-5 its last 18 games overall.

But the main difference today will be Mets? starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey, who is 8-6 this season with 3.64 ERA. Though Pelfrey has a 5.56 ERA on the road, he is 4-2 in eight road starts this year, while the Mets are 4-4 in those starts.

After the Mets went 0-4 in his first four starts away from home, they?ve gone 4-0 in his last four road starts. Also, over Pelfrey?s last seven starts he is 6-0 with one no decision, while New York is a perfect 7-0.

Also, since the start of June, Pelfrey?s ERA has gone from 4.65 to its current 3.64.

Pencil in Pelfrey as your starting pitcher and go with the Mets on the road today.

Cleveland Indians vs. Seattle Mariners

Cleveland Indians -132

The Cleveland Indians have a huge pitching mismatch as they meet the Mariners in the rubber match of there three-game series. Not much has gone right for the Indians this season, but they?ve got a good chance to win nearly every time Cliff Lee takes the mound. Lee (12-2, 2.31 ERA) is tied for the AL lead in wins and is second in ERA. Those numbers earned him a start in Tuesday?s All-Star game, and he responded by striking out three and allowing one hit in two scoreless innings. Cleveland is 13-5 when Lee pitches, compared with a 29-49 record in all other games. He won his final start before the break July 11 by striking out seven in six innings of a 5-0 victory over Tampa Bay. Meanwhile the Mariners will go with Carlos Silva whose been as bad as Lee's been good. Silva is 4-11 overall with an ERA of 5.46. But since the beginning of May, he's 1-11 with a 6.93 ERA. His .317 opponent batting average for the year ranks among the five worst in the majors, not what the Mariners were hoping for when they signed him to a four-year, $48 million contract before the season.

The right-hander has been a bit better recently, allowing two runs in three of his last four starts

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Colorado Rockies

Colorado Rockies -179

1 Unit PLAY on Rockies -179 (listing Cook and Duke)
The Pirates haven't been able to buy a win on the road behind Duke. The Pirates are just 7-25 in Duke's last 32 road starts. The Pirates are 15-39 in their last 54 road games period. The Rockies are 7-1 in their last 8 home games and 4-0 in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a losing record. Cook has been solid all season and we'll bet the Rockies behind him at home for another easy winner.

Selection: Colorado Rockies -1.5 Runs (+105)

Reason: Put us down on the Colorado Rockies -1.5 Runs (+105) for our Free MLB Selection on Sunday. Today the Pittsburgh Pirates will be on the road as they take on the Colorado Rockies (the Colorado Rockies are 8-1 in their last 9 home games). We will side with the Colorado Rockies -1.5 Runs! One reason why we will side with the Colorado Rockies is beacuse they will be sending to the mound the much better starting pitcher. This says it all... The Pittsburgh Pirates Starting Pitcher (Zach Duke) has a 7.42 ERA in his last 3 starts, while Colorado Rockies Starting Pitcher (Aaron Cook) has a 3.22 ERA in his last 3 starts. To say the least, the Colorado Rockies should be able to get a blowout win today! Take the Colorado Rockies -1.5 Runs!

Game: New York Mets vs. Cincinnati Reds

Plays On: New York/Cincinnati Under 8.5 (-110)

Game Analyses: We see a low-scoring game between the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds in Sunday's MLB game.

The New York Mets will be lead by starting pitcher Michael Pelfrey. Michael Pelfrey has been pitching well this season. In fact, Michael Pelfrey has a 3.64 ERA on the season. In addition, Michael Pelfrey has a 0.41 ERA in his last 3 starts. We see Michael Pelfrey giving up very few hits and runs today.

The Cincinnati Reds will be lead by starting pitcher Edinson Volquez. Edinson Volquez has also been pitching well this season. In fact, Edinson Volquez has a 2.29 ERA on the season. We see Edinson Volquez also giving up very few hits and runs today.

The bottom line, we should see very little scoring today.

Take the New York Mets/Cincinnati Reds Under 8.5!

Tony Mathews

Matchup: Kansas City Royals vs. Chicago White Sox

Selection: Chicago White Sox -1.5 Runs (+130)

Explanation: We will side with the Chicago White Sox -1.5 Runs as they face-off against the Kansas City Royals in Sunday's MLB contest.

The Kansas City Royals will use starting pitcher Brian Bannister. Brian Bannister has struggled this season. In fact, Brian Bannister has a 5.24 ERA on the season. In addition, Brian Bannister has a 9.92 ERA in his last 3 starts. We see Brian Bannister having another bad game today.

The Chicago White Sox will use starting pitcher John Danks. John Danks has been pitching very well this season. In fact, John Danks has a 2.67 ERA on the season. We see John Danks pitching another great game today.

The Chicago White Sox are 43-15 in their last 58 meetings against the Kansas City Royals (when playing in Chicago), and should be able to get another blowout win today!

Take the Chicago White Sox -1.5 Runs!

My free pick of the day is the game between (903) NYM Mets and (904) CIN Reds. Take "Under". Two outstanding pitchers going on Sunday as the Mets take on the Reds. Mike Pelfrey might just be the hottest pitcher in baseball. Heading into the break he tossed back to back shutouts, working 15 innings, giving up just nine hits and no runs. In fact, Pelfrey has allowed just five earned runs in his last 32 2/3 innings worked. Edison Volquez has been one of the best first half pitchers, going 12-3 with a 2.29 era. Edison is coming off a fine performance in Milwaukee where he went seven innings, scattered six hits and allowed just one earned run for the win. Two excellent pitchers and we still get a total at 8 1/2. We'll go UNDER here on Sunday with the Mets and Reds.

Dave Cokin

My free pick of the day is the game between (927) CLE Indians and (928) SEA Mariners. Take "(927) CLE Indians". Cliff Lee has been lights out all season for the Indians and I see little reason to believe that's about to change as he faces the less than daunting Seattle attack. Carlos Silva tosses for the M's, and while he's been a little better lately, he's anything but dominating. Huge edge on the mound for the Indians, and it's a game they should win.

HONDO

Hondo had a no-play yesterday because, contrary to the 411 in the Pitching Form, Duchscherer (or Chsch, for short) failed to ascend the hill for the Ath letics. That left Mr. Aitch holding steady as Eddie with earnings of 745 kascos.

Today, he'll pass on Duchscherer (who knows if he'll even show up?) and, instead, float 10 units at Wakefield, that knucklehead.

SFG (-132) SportBet vs 913 MIL

Analysis: The Brewers have thrown their "one-two punch" at the Giants in the first two games of this series, the newly -acquired CC Sabathia and the team's old stand-by, Ben Sheets. Sabathia was dominating on Friday in a 9-1 win, while Sheets struggled a little (5 IP / 9 hits / 4 runs of which two were earned) Saturday but was bailed out by the offense, which scored eight runs. Now the Brewers will try and pull off the three-game road sweep against the Giants ace, Tim Lincecum. Lincecum comes in 11-2 with a 2.57 ERA in 20 appearances (19 starts) in '08, as the Giants are 13-6 in his starts. While he has pitched better on the road (2.11 ERA) than at home (3.23 ERA) this year, I'm willing to play him in this one. I realize that the Giants own MLB's worst home record (17-30) but I'm not completely sold on Manny Parra or on the Brewers on the road. Parra has surprised with an 8-2 mark in this first half (3.69 ERA) but like so many of Milwaukee's starters (save Sheets and now Sabathia), he's struggled away from home with 4.91 road ERA, compared to his 2.87 ERA at Miller Park. Lincecum hasn't pitched since last Sunday (sat out the All Star game with flu-like symptoms) when he gave up one run in eight innings (nine Ks) in Wrigley Field against the NL's top-scoring team in the Cubs. Go with the Giants.

MLB 15* American League Game of the Week $35
Ross has a blockbuster MLB selection on Sunday afternoon that will not be close! This is highest graded American League Game in the last 2 weeks. You are guaranteed in being a winner or there will be no charge.

15* Detroit Tigers -130

Comments: Detroit (Verlander) @ Baltimore (Burres)
The Tigers are a very profitable 18-7 versus a left-handed starting pitcher this season. The Detroit starter Justin Verlander enters the game in excellent form off of his last 7 starts posting a stellar 2.54 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and the Tigers have won 6 of the 7. The Baltimore southpaw starter Burres has been horrible in 9 home starts posting a lofty 6.14 ERA while allowing 11 home runs in just 49.1 innings. Burres is 3-12 in his last 15 team starts as an underdog of 1.50 or less. The Orioles are 1-6 in their last 7 as an underdog while the Tigers are 22-6 in their last 22 as a favorite including 9-1 in the last 10 as a road favorite. Play on the Detroit Tigers as my MLB 15* American League Game of the Week.
