I don't have the breakdown on numbers but here's the system for those that know. It was the one developed by Hank Stam.

1. If a team has won the Super Bowl in last three years, add 10 points to their side.
-

2. If a team?s opponent is going to its first ever first Super Bowl, add eight points to the non-virgin side.
-

3. Add eight points to the team whose defense allowed fewer rushes per game.
-

4. Add seven points to the side with more total offensive rushes.
-

5. Add seven points to the team that had the best overall record straight-up.
-

6. Add five points to the team with the lowest average yards per carry allowed on D.
-

7. Add four points to the team that had a better record against the spread.
-

8. Give four points to the team that had a better score in net penalty yards.
-

9. Add four points to the team with more TDs scored on special teams.
-

10. Give three and-a-half to the team with more yards per pass attempt.
-

11. Add three and-a-half for fewest points allowed.
-

12. Add three and-a-half for fewest rushing TDs allowed.
-

13. Add three points to the team with the most sacks.
-

14. Give two and-a-half points to the team that attempted the fewest passes on offense.
-

15. Tack two onto the team that was better in the punting department, overall.
-

16. Add one and-a-half to the team with the best average in offensive yards per carry.

-17. And finally, give one point to the team that had a higher completion percentage.
-

I figured Pitt 54 to 23 with 2 catagories not sure. Almost 2 to 1 in favor of Pitt. (Was not expecting that!)

The first 1 which account for an 20 point swing is not a good judge of results. The last 6 Bowls, the repeat was 3-3.

Why is a first time as a franchise versus a team that has been but hasnt been in 15 years matter???

Goofiness.

I agree with you about number 2 but number 1 makes perfect sense. It's a 2 week period that the players and coaches have never been thru but they other team has. Why is it goffiness? So it's 3-3 the last 6? I would say the over all total is very impressive. I think if the system is becoming void it's because the game is changing to more passing than running.

I am just playing devils advocate a bit. The system has its merits but like all systems they get worn down due to various good reasons mentioned in this thread. i am simply poking at what I preceive the ones the most off base for actually playing in the game.
One mans opinion: The preparation for the SB has become less and less of a big deal. Its more about the coaching and the Xs and Os. Since the PIT/SEA game, the games have been all about strategy and risk and less of about everything else

It`s broken down at another site, each of the 17 statements and which team qualifys. According to them, the final tally is Pitt 62 G.B. 7.:scared  :scared
