A good friend of mine was at a Nike all star game in the Dome last week.He is a HS coach in the area and Cuse graduate..
This is what he said.Carmela is the most talented player ever to play for the Cuse excluding Dave Bing.He had the fans jumping out of their seats. When he gets the ball out on the wing on a break everyone stands up. He can pass, shoot, rebound, hit 3's,FT's etc.
Billy Owens and Derrick Coleman couldn't do the things this kid does.
Edelin I've seen play.He will run the offense. But he was suspended lyr and now is out a few games because he played in an illegal summer game.??Cuse is appealing it.Probaly won't play on Thur nite.
McNamara from Scranton will start at pt.He won't see pressure defense because most teams will have to zone the cuse. With a player like Anthony many teams will be forced to play zones.
I can see Calipari trying to trap and pressure the frosh pt gd but Jimmy Boe will make sure Carmela gets the ball out on the open court. And he can create with his dribble and passing.Calipari should play half ct defense.
My buddy said he was "more impressed with his passing skills then anything else."

Nova has Jason Frazier. He is the best big man to come out of NY HS's in 25 yrs.I have seen him play the past 3 yrs.And impact player. He can run the floor, shot block, and has a nice soft touch.Lyr in the NY state finals he rebounded a pass, threw the outlet, ran down and dunked the ball.He is athletic. Wright has a big time stud.
Will be back capping a few games later in the week.

twofigers..forget Frosh POYr...He could be national POYr
Looking foward to your write up.

Hoops, how are you doing?I might have a ticket for you for friday nite.Texas-Georgia-Texas and Nova -Marquette

twofingers - Anthony will be a "One Hit Wonder" like Omar Cook if he comes out after his freshman year. I've been following him for three years and while he has great potential, he is no where near NBA ready. Hopefully he will stay with the college game for at least two years...

twofigers, you can't compare Omar Cook with Carmela Anthony.
Omar was a good HS player. An above avg college player. He could never make the NBA.He can't shoot the ball. And who the hell can he guard. He had trouble guarding people in HS.
Think off all the pt gds that were stars in college the past few yrs and are just holding on to their jobs in the NBA
Matten Cleaves,Steve Logan,Earl Watson,Kenny Satterfield,Brevin Knight. They are all avg'g less then 3 pts.
Dan Dickau Zaga's star is avg 0.8.Brevin Knight 4 pts.

Some stars that weren't pt gds like Kareem Rush are avg 2.6 pts or Tayshan Prince 2.8.Troy Murphy N Dames BE POY has a 6 pt avg. The Terps stars baxter 4.2 and Wilcox 1.3.Dixon is tearing up the league with a 6 pt avg.

Now I know some of these guys will get better and adjust. But the NBA game is so different.I thought Marcus Fizer would be a great pro. He's terrible.
Now Carmelo might turn out to be like the above. But I doubt it.Only time will tell.

Box- Sounds good...if you have an extra ticket, feel free to shoot me an email.

Really, the Cook comparison isn't accurate at all. Talking about a 5'10 guard...not many of those exceed in the NBA. Cook could have stayed 4 years in college and he would never be a good NBA player, as Box said..no jumper, no D. Anthony is a wing-player with size and superlative skills at this point. He'll be a much better college and pro player, no question about that.

Point was that Anthony will not be a pure PG in either college or the NBA. People are hyping him when the next best PG isn't even playing college ball this year. The kid Shakur from Philly, who is going to Arizona next year, would be my choice. He's been compared to Kenny Anderson and Marbury in terms of being a "pure #1". Anthony will be a good player but lacks the discipline to play the point...

Anthony won't be playing PG...he's a wing player..shooting guard or small forward.

Anthony will play the 3 and he's a lot better than Omar Cook dreams of being. He's better than Omar Cook right now. An improved outside jumper will make him a Tracy McGrady clone. If he stays next year, Syracuse will win a national championship. That is a very young and talented team and I agree with Box and One's friend who claims that Anthony will be one of the best to ever play at Syracuse. The kid is sensational. If Boeheim can convince him to stay awhile, the Big East won't even be a contest.
