Got a high def tv and comcast cable. On every high def channel the signal is boxed. Like on a movie the top and bottom is blacked out. I have the same television as my friend and but on his the same channels are full screen. I have an aspect button on the remote and can choose between 4:3, full, just or zoom. Zoom is the only only that fills up the whole screen but the image becomes distorted. Anybody have any idea of why the channels are being displayed not using the entire screen?

Is there any adjustment that needs to be done using the remote from comcast? Help me out please.

you have to program your tv. go to the menu and look for your settings. there should be a setting where you can have the tv read what signal is coming in and it will automatically fill the screen. i think it is a default setting or something.

i use directv, think they are the best. there supposed to put out close to 100 HD channels in the next month or so

hope this helps

I can't find any setting to adjust the incoming signal. It's in the menu section I suppose. Its a panasonic. I just want the damn thing to go full screen.

I don't think so. I haven't messed with the factory settings. Whatever the defaults are is what it is now set with. Not even sure where the widescreen option is. All i have is an aspect button on the remote. Could the cable box be cropping the screen?

For the panasonic the "just" setting is the proper one. Watching a football game on a HD channel should fill the screen completely. There should be no black bars at top, bottom, or sides. Movies on the other hand can be a different situation. Lets say you are watching a movie on HBOHD or something or on DVD, depending on the film, there may be black bars on the top and bottom. This happens because some movies (lord of the rings, stars wars for example) are filmed at a wider aspect ratio than the widescreen TVs are. There is nothing you can do about it. As you've seen, if you change the aspect away from the "just" setting, it just makes the picture distorted. If there are black bars on when watching football on HD channel, then go into 'menu' on your remote, then choose 'setup' option on your screen, and see if there is an option to change the aspect ratio to 16:9.

The term for the "black bars" at the top and bottom is "letter boxing". I took a movie and film class back in college and that is the only term I remember from the whole damn semester.:scared
