I thought u did have to report it on your 2008 income.

I've also heard that it's the tax back on the first 10k you pay in this year. I'm not sure what is correct, but my family will be getting a check for 1800 bucks. Nice vacation fund! :00hour

You're TAX BILL next year WILL BE that much higher as what you get in a check this year.:0corn

So either you will OWE that much more next year, or get less BACK. You will not be paying TAX on the extra $1000 you get this year, next year. You will be paying THE ENTIRE $1000 BACK, in either a higher tax bill or lower refund.:scared

Consider it like a DRAW (or advance) like you'd get from an employer, that's all. No one is getting any "extra cash", except the brokeass libtard $8 an hour with 2 Kids single mom democrats that make nothing, and pay nothing (like my idiot sister). Every year my sis gets a $4000 check, when her withholding has only been $1000 for the year. My wife says we should just write her a check each year instead of giving it to the gov to give to my sis.

Cripes, how do you think all of a sudden Washington was getting along so well. Bush looks like a hero, and dems move get to move cash from rich (aka hard working and smart) to poor ( aka lazy and dumb) Hillary, Pelosi and Reid had to ensure some sort of wealth redistribution. :mj07:

Moral of the insanity: If it seems to good to be true...IT IS!:142smilie

Above the Clouds....
You will not be taxed on it and the bill should be signed be the end of this week. Expect the check early summer.

NYS residents have gotten similiar property rebate checks in the past and it has never been taxed.

Whle I am happy to get a check (if it ever comes), from a fairness standpoint, this is the biggest crock of poo I've ever heard.

The people that pay 40% of the tax in this country - yes, the top 1% wageearners don't get a check. And it is mostly their money that is getting handed to people.

I understand the theory - let's stimulate the economy and give the money to people that will spend it. But it seems like a lot of people are going to be smart about it (pay off loans, etc) so it will not generate the desired effect.

Again, while it is great to get a check from the rich somehow it doesn't feel right to get their money. If it was really a way to help the poor, why do people get checks all the way up to $150,000 in income?

What they should have done is give bigger checks to the people that really need it - those on income assistance, etc. It seems stupid to take money from those families that make $500,000 and give it to famiilies that make $140,000.

If we are going to steal from the rich, then make it worthwhile. People making $140,000 certainly aren't struggling by any means.

So, either:

1. Give it exclusvely to the poor and call it a welfare program, OR
2. Give it back in porportion to what people paid in - in other words, give people their money back they already paid in taxes and not screw the people that are paying the majority of taxes in this country.

Ok, I'm done ranting now.
