Is this a case of youth versus experience? Perhaps so. Dan Cunningham, Winky's trainer, states Taylor is very easy to train for. Very predictable. Well, would'nt you think the same about Wright? Winky has the experience factor in his favor. Is well seasoned and the consummate road warrior. Fought all over the world. Winky's first fight at 160lbs was versus Trinidad in May of 2005. Winky gave Mosley a free shot in their fight. Obviously Wright had little respect for Shane's punching power. Does anyone think for one second he will extend Taylor the same favor? My point being Taylor, I fee,l is still improving and learning. Is highly motivated as indicated by the fact he brought in Steward for this one. Winky is a well respected professional. Great stamina; well conditioned. Still, as one scribe pointed out, Taylor expended a lot of nervous energy in his bouts with Hopkins. I'd say he is settling down as he moves through the moves. He will stick and move. He is taller and has less ring wear on him. I say the champ, Taylor is a good value at around -120 or so.

Very interesting about the Steward situation, I heard him say recently that Taylor's style will create problems for Winky.
I'd love to know if he was already on team Taylor when he made those comments.

IMO, Taylor's size and power are his only advantages. Winky is the better fighter p4p, much better defensively, has an excellent chin, and he's a slick southpaw with a very wide stance. The wide stance keeps his lead foot way out in front of him, making it very hard for his orthodox opponents to get close and makes it very awkward for his opponent to get off.

I played Taylor at +140 about 4 months ago at Olympic, somehow the bet is still pending. Also played Wright by decision +150 and the draw +1700.

Not that Winky is ring worn, only that Taylor has less of it, whatever it's called. Ya know, I haven't pulled the trigger yet, and I just may do a tap dance, and redirect my opinion. Price is leaking up on Taylor, even here in Vegas. Gee, the price skyrocketed on Tarver, but it did'nt mean jack. I just feel any punches Taylor DOES land will most likely be the hardest Wright has ever absorbed. Can have an effect on his game plan.

Absolutley

But I know Wright has done a lot of sparring with Lacy

I was originally liking Taylor in this matchup, but the more that I think about it Wright will provide a very elusive target. Taylor is still a relatively young fighter and the southpaw stance is another bonus for Winky in this fight. Winky is more than content to be evasive and win on points without fighting dumb and mixing it up.

They(Winky and Lacy) are stable mates and usually help each other prepare. After the horrific beatdown Lacy got, I don't know if that is such a good idea. Also agree with jab; Winky is no fool.

"the bunker"
the odds are moving a little.....i don`t like that...

but,i see it frank`s way.....i think that taylor`s size and raw athletic talent...amateur pedigree......now steward in his corner....the height and natural size....

winky doesn`t have much in the way of movement....the lefty stance will make it difficult....

but, trinidad was tailor made for winky.....mosley`s smallish and over the hill...

sam soliman...bronco mckart....losses to harry simon and vargas(i think taylor beats vargas like a drum even in his prime).....

i like winky...but he`s 2 fights up from jr middle...

and this is in memphis....

winky`s defense is tough, but,at first blush,i like taylor...

beating hopkins twice.....that`s an accomplishment.....the master boxer...who just out slicked and beat tarver like a rented mule...

with steward in his corner...

of course,i reserve the right to change my mind after getting spun like a top reading every opinion from every swinging dick from here to eternity...

OK, now today I an CERTAIN Taylor will win on points. I feel the jab will be a main weapon in his arsenal; Steward knows how important this is. I also believe Taylor will outwork Wright JUST enough to win by UD or SD. I reserve the right to reconsider IF new info surfaces.

Well, I did it. I bet Jermain Taylor to win straight up. The deed is done.

At one of the boxing sites it was mentioned Taylor refused his promoters offer to be escorted by a musician(rapper) I assume, to the ring. This is good; very good. Anyone remember Cory Spinks? At any rate, Taylor has at least 3 things going for him. No long drawn out musical interlude; his IS the champ, and he won't be OT'd(over tattooed). So lets see; champ, no music, no tattoos. I like it.

But he LOST the fight! I'm telling you, one or two less tattoos and he may have got the decision.

You don't get it. Over indulgence in use of skin illustrations is a sign of mental defectiveness.
