Wow,

kick maybe you can answer this question.
I'm, watching some pre-Wimbledon tennis today.
Andreev, Verdasco, Youzhny, Robredo, Gicquel, Kuznetsova, Jankovic, Zvonareva, Cibulkova all ranked high....all go down today without a fight !

:scared :scared :scared :scared

I'm coming from the boxing world, so forgive my naivitae....but I just watched Verdasco completely tank it. It was a total joke.

Do most of these players just lose on purpose to get the rest before the BIG tourneys? It seems pretty remarkable that literally EVERY ranked player lost today.

I remember a year ago, Duford did a piece on REAL SPORT on HBO about fixing matches in tennis. I don't really think "fix" is the right description for today, but there is no question in my mind some of these players were half-assing it. Does this happen all the time?

If you bet every dog on the board last night, you could retire rich today!

Figures Benneteau would pull off huge upset after I asked him to pull off a minor one(with good odds) last tournament and not come through.
Hey Frenchie,:thefinger

As for the tanking, it does seem odd that all these players lost today, but with Wimbledon just 7 days away most of these players are just looking for some court time on grass and clearly not going all out.

Also the oddsmakers seem to know that these guys are just getting work in.
Look at Andreev the #1 seed in the 1stR was only -140.
Benneteau was +275 vs Youzhny. Same matchup at Wimbledon and he is +400.
Kuznetsova was the only HUGE upset -1200/+650.
Jankovic was -450 as well.

Curious to see how hard Safina pushes it because she could win this tournament spotting every player left a set.

Good point kegray.
Even though some of these players are HIGHLY ranked in the world, the lines were set sort of close for most of them. Robredo match was close to a pick 'em.

I only watched the Verdaso match, and it was pretty clear to me he was not willing to run down more than a few balls. He acted like a real dick afterwards, too. Just grabbed his bags and left.
:mj07:

Thanks for your feedback. I'm still easing into the tennis thing.

I love betting tennis as there has always been some easy prey in early rounds if you follow the guys who never get out of the first or second rounds.

I snoozed this morning and would have grabbed 1 or 2 of these but also would have been burned on a couple so who knows how I would have finished today.
Might get some in tomorrow.

And there is NO EXCUSE for Kuz getting blanked 6-0 in first set vs Wozniak even if she is just getting some work in. How is not getting a game to a scrub in round 1 getting any work in. She must have done this tournament because she was there and wanted on the practice courts for the week.

Ok first off.........never ever bet against a :canada1

And 2nd.......I was just happy showing up, most of the time I'd just have sex with the hot ball girls, maybe I'd win one game....maybe:142smilie

Ghost...........

With all the crackdowns the ATP has made I'd be shocked if any matches were being fixed. Sure maybe 1 or two a year, but I highly highly doubt it. As for the "big tourneys", no way.

2nd point.....GRASS, that explains a lot. Hardly any tournys on grass, very very different game on grass, very different.

3rd point......"warm up" tournys always have results like this, always.

4th point.....Some guys tank, it is rare, but almost every player in top 200 has tanked a match. I know I sure did. Fix...no....tank it....yeskurby

Robredo despises the grass surface.

I am leaving tomorrow alone even although I did put in a few Wimbledon futures today:

TO WIN:
MEN'S
Djolovic(+1600)
Federer(+140)

Don't think Nadal has a chance playing hurt like this. Only Andy Murray can ruin this.

WOMEN:
Venus(+500)
Dementieva(+3800)

Venus has 3 of last 4 titles here yet Serena is 2-1.OK?
Dementieva has made 3 of the last 4 major semi's including last years Wimbledon so I think is worth a 38-1 shot.

Well I dropped the ball this morning with no plays.
I kept telling myself all last night before I went to bed that there is no way Sam Querrey should be a -450 favorite over anybody and I should be playing anyone who is getting +260 vs Benneteau.

Sure enough both choke and dogs pay big. Talk about a pay day not played.:mj16:

See what I'm saying!?!?!? Shit....i dropped it, too, bro.
I was gonna test my strategy and just throw ten bucks against every big favorite.

Well it is happening AGAIN today.

I looked long and hard at the matchups and could not talk myself into a play on Ivan Navarro(+340) over Ferrer.
Ferrer dumped two bums in the 1st two rounds with ease and is the type of guy who just wants to lift a trophy. Navarro has only been out of the 1st round twice this year in 13 tournaments and never the 3rd round until today.
THIS DID NOT ADD UP TO A PLAY.
Sure enough he dumps Ferrer.

Also looked hard a Schuettler as a +150 dog and he is tied in the 3rd set 1-1.

Chardy was actually the lower seed #7 and Schuettler was #4 but odds on Chardy were -180.
