Milan Open (carpet):
Stepanek $2.88 over Novak: Novak lost in the 1st rd here last year to Sargsian and was 3-4 on the carpet in 2002 including a 2-set loss to Andre Pavel in Paris in late October. He has been in reasonable form early season, making the 1/4s in Auckland when upset by Mantilla and the 3rd rd at the Aus Open when he lost in 4 sets to Youzhny. Stepanek was the big improver last year and lost to Henman in the 2nd rd in that Paris event after beating Guga. Made the 3rd rd in Melbourne and then got hammered by Hewitt but a little over the odds here.

Sanguinetti $2.50 over Santoro: Odds to good here to ignore - after all, the Italian won the tournament last yr with wins over Vinck, Ferrero, El Aynaoui, Escude and Federer. Santoro is in much better form and is the classier player but may be nursing an Aus Open hangover after winning the doubles at the weekend. Sanguinetti was hammered in the 1st rd in Melbourne by Kratochvil but runs hot and cold and got hot early last season and has hometown backing here.
