tennis wagering question

I had Nadal to win his match over Gonzales. Big favorite of course.
Anyway, as you know, Nadal is up 1-0 in sets and 3-2 in the second set tiebreaker.
However, Gonzales is serving the next two points, and Nadal has an addominal injury.
I kind of want my bet voided.....as I don't have a good feeling about Nadal winning (I know...I'm a pessimist).
How does a suspended match work? I know the players pick up right where they left off, but will the wager still count, even if it is being resumed on a totally different day?
Thanks.
P.S.....Can Nadal win this match?!

I very seldom wager on tennis but I am a big fan of the game. When a boxing match is postponed, most books leave the bet standing for a 30-day or 60-day period just in case the contest is rescheduled. With tennis, I am assuming that a one-day rain-delay postponement will NOT cause bets to be voided. All bets are final once they have been confirmed. If you are uncomfortable with your play in view of Nadal's discomfort (he seems a bit bothered by the weather as well as his stomach injury), what you could do is to hedge the bet or simply lay it off by betting the other side. In other words, you could bet Gonzalez at plus numbers to reduce or remove your exposure on Nadal. I can see why you are a little uneasy about the wager. Knowing that Nadal has a nagging injury concern could enhance Gonzalez's mental strength; he might feel that he can simply outlast Rafa. I did think that Gonzo was coming on ever-so slightly in that tie break, but who knows how a delay will affect the players. There are some sharp tennis guys on this forum who can advise you far better than I can and I am sure one or two of them will add their opinions, which will be a lot more informed than mine, as regards Rafa's prospects when play resumes.

thank for the response.
Yes, I just went to the "rules" section on the book's website. It appears that my wager will stand.
However, I doubt they will offer an "in-game" line here.
I will just hope for the best with Rafa....he had a chance to go up a few points in that tiebreaker...but missed an easy shot.

I am in the same boat with you....I have a big bet on Nadal and am nervous going into tomorrow

I think he win will though....even if he drops the tie break.....Nadal has won the last 13 sets these two have played....I imagine he can take 2 more sets....hopefully for all of us he takes that tiebreaker....would make life a hell of a lot easier.....

I agree with thongie....the rest will help the injury.....
the best tennis guys on the board are kick, wayne, jcover...maybe they can give advice.....

As for me...I am riding the Nadal bet out....

Check your book rules. Some books require the match to go 2 full sets or it will be void. Some require 1 set, etc. (If you are worried about Nadal retiring)

As others stated, the rest will help Nadal. As for the rules, as 77sticks stated most state that match must be completed for bet to stand. So if Nadal does retire (which I am 90% sure he will not) your bet will most likely be voided. But with all that being said I think Nadal will win the match. Although my selections in the US Open have been horrific so take that for what its worth:142smilie

Also, take note, some books will void the bet if match is not played within 48 hours of when match stopped. Just a heads up for ya. But that rule won't apply, the weather isn't supposed to be great, but I think all matches will be played. Although it is possible for tourney to end on Monday (if weather continues to suck).

And if you really really want to get technical:

If a tennis match is stopped and continued on ANOTHER surface the bet is void. This rule almost never comes into effect, but it has happened before. Let's say a match is being played on outdoor red clay. The match is stopped because of rain. It rains for days and days. Match is moved indoors on hard court, bet is voided. As stated this almost never ever happens, but it does occur. Now how about that for a rule:eek:

Bottom line, books have different rules for tennis, READ EM before ya bet. Huge difference if rule says "match must be completed for bet to stand" compared to "match is active once one point is played". Big, big difference:eek:

First off, I'm flattered that Ghost Kid would think of me as one of the best tennis guys on the site, but I'll humbly admit that I don't hold a candle to Wayne or kick. Regardless, I'll give my opinion on the situation.

Just as 77sticks said...under most books rules the only way this match won't stand is if they somehow don't finish the 2nd set tiebreaker. That is not happening. I don't know of any books that have put up a new line or have a live line. That doesn't mean there is no place that has these lines available; however, it would require you actively seeking that shop out. IMO, your options to buy yourself out of the Nadal wager are very limited at best. Most likely, you are going to have to ride this one out on the injured favorite, my friend. Best of luck.

Also have noticed that there are some books that have re-lined this one. Uncle Joe, if you are still looking to get out of your Nadal wager, there are some hedge opportunities available.

Looks like Nadal is going to get some more rest.
Very wet and raining and forecast bad.

This rest will really help Rafa ... methinks Gonzo's window of opportunity is just about closed.

Short term speaking as a guy who has Nadal as only thing left in a parlay has me thrilled.
Long term for Nadal, this is bad.

He will have to finish tonight and then get on the court for the Semi's tomorrow and the Finals are slated for Sunday but may move to Monday.

I think Nadal chances are slim to none of winning the tourney.

Okay guys...another question...
This morning I made a wager on Serena Williams (even though I hate her) to defeat Kim Clijsters. I layed 450 to win 175.
As you all know by now, that match has been postponed until tomorrow. I now have zero funds available to wager with tonight on baseball. Do sportsbooks void the play if the entire match has been moved to a completely different day? I mean, a point hasn't even been played yet.
It would be nice if my funds were made available, since I am basically held hostage to that wager until whenever it starts.
Also, are they still waiting out the men's match for tonight? The US Open website says that women's semifinals are postponed until tomorrow. It make no mention of that Rafa match.
Thanks guys!

These rain delays usually favor younger players as opposed to older ones.
Especially in best of 5.
Who's the older player in the draw ?.....:00hour :00hour :00hour :00hour :00hour :00hour :00hour
