ARLINGTON ? A confrontation with teammate Chad Curtis led to catcher Ivan Rodriguez leaving the Rangers' game after five innings Saturday night.
According to witnesses, Curtis and Rodriguez argued in the dugout at The Ballpark in Arlington during the game against Tampa Bay. There was no indication that the confrontation turned physical. It was uncertain whether Rodriguez left on his own or was told to go home.
The Rangers said Rodriguez came out of the game and went home because of a "family illness" but offered no other details.
Manager Jerry Narron said he was told Rodriguez received a telephone call from his wife, Maribel, before the game informing him of the "family illness." Narron said he knew no other specifics, including the severity of the illness and whether Rodriguez would play Sunday.
Curtis had a clubhouse argument with former teammate Royce Clayton last season. He also had public disagreements with teammates Kevin Mitchell in Cleveland and Derek Jeter with the New York Yankees.
