Ogilvie has been playing some great golf over the last three months. He has finished in the top-15 in four of his last seven events (five out of seven if you use the strokeplay scores for the International) and has been in the top-3 at the end of one of the day's play in four of his last six starts. The only he hasn't done is convert his chances to win. Ironically, he did 62 in the final round in his penultimate event, the Reno-Tahoe Open, but he had started the day in 27th place and so finished 3rd. Against a weak field and on a course on which he shot 61 in 2004 - he has finished in the top-15 in each of the last two years - he should once again give himself a chance to win. Not every 33/1 shot does that.
Steve Lowery to win 50/1 e.w. @ BetDirect
Certainly a big price for a player who can shoot low scores around easy courses. En route to finishing 5th in the Canadian Open two weeks ago, he recorded three eagles, the most of any player that week and, having finished 18th the week before in the Deutsche Bank Championship, he is clearly in good form. And while his record in Texas is not so good, it is good enough on this course where he finished 8th last year when his form had been so bad that it had been over a year since his previous top-10 finish. That is not the case this year and he warrants shorter odds than this.
Dean Wilson to win 50/1 e.w. @ BetInternet and William Hill
So does Wilson who won the International only last month and that is an event that rewards attacking golf and which is why Ogilvie and Lowery have had high finishes there. On this, the easiest par-70 course on Tour, attacking golf will be the norm and it has worked well for Wilson in each of his two visits. Curiously, he has held the lead in this event heading into the weekend on both occasions, finishing 3rd in 2004 and 7th in 2005. Now that he does have that win on the PGA Tour, the multiple winner on the Japan Tour should be better prepared to hold onto the lead should he find himself in the same position for the third year running.
