Outright plays (total stake per play: 1pt)

Anthony Kim to win 33/1 e.w. available generally
He may not have been as impressive recently as during the first half of the year, but in the year since he made his PGA Tour debut in this event he has finished in the top-10 ten times out of 25 attempts, progressed to the penultimate week of the Playoffs and in one year has earned more Tour prize money than Arnold Palmer earned in his whole career. So returning to the scene of 2nd place finish last year and to a State in which he has had a further top-5 finish this year, he should be able to turn in a much improved performance this week.

Charley Hoffman to win 33/1 e.w. @ Sunderlands [6 places]
By contrast, Hoffman's form has been much improved in recent weeks: in the last two weeks, for example, he has been 5th at the cut both times. He did falter on Sunday, so couldn't secure a second successive top-5 finish, but he is clearly approaching the form that earned him victory in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic at the start of the year. With a top-10 finish on his course debut last year and having already registered a win in Texas on the Nationwide Tour (2005 Permian Basin Classic), he should provide value at these odds.

Bart Bryant to win 40/1 e.w. @ BetInternet, Stan James and Victor Chandler
Backing the course record holder (60 in 2004) with the weather conditions expected to produce another week of low scoring around this course. It is not simply that he has gone low on this course - eleven of his twelve rounds at LaCantera have been under-par - but that he has been showing good form recently without earning high finishes: in his last two events he has been 8th and 7th with one round to play. On this course, he should be more likely to carry that form into the final round.

Dean Wilson to win 40/1 e.w. @ William Hill and Boyle Sports
Wilson is another with a very impressive record around LaCantera: he held the 36-hole lead in both 2004 and 2005, finishing 3rd and 7th respectively, and last year he finished 2nd. On none of those occasions did he have any form heading into the event and it may be said that he is in slightly better form this year, so I'll back him as a course specialist who, now that he has won on this Tour, may be more likely to hold onto a 36-hole lead this time around.

Date: October 4-7, 2007
Location: LaCantera Golf Club ? San Antonio, TX
2006 Champion: Eric Axley
2007 Purse: $4.5 million ($810,000 to the winner)

The Fall Series continues with the Valero Texas Open, an event that has traditionally seen extremely low scores and a boatload of first-time champions.

Editor's Note: For all intents and purposes, the fantasy golf season ended with the FedEx Cup. For that reason, we'll be ramping down our fantasy golf coverage throughout the remainder of the Fall Series. But there are at least a handful of hard core fantasy hackers out there who will continue through the bitter end, and for them we'll continue to provide a tournament preview article highlighting everything they'll need to know to set their lineups on a weekly basis.

The Favorites
Coming off his fourth career PGA TOUR victory a week ago, Chad Campbell looks to continue his momentum in San Antonio. Though Campbell has never finished better than T17 in three trips to LaCantera, he has to be considered among the favorites in another watered-down field. Staying deep in the heart, TCU grad J.J. Henry has three top-five finishes at this event in his last five attempts, which is enough to make him an attractive option despite the fact he hasn't finished better than T27 since late June. Steve Flesch is not satisfied with just two PGA TOUR victories this year, and given his recent run of success he can't be ignored. Perhaps the most intriguing name in the field, however, is PGA TOUR rookie Anthony Kim. Kim has slumped badly since carding three top-five finishes in a five-event span in the spring, but he returns this week to the scene of his best finish ever ? a T2 at this very event a year ago in his PGA TOUR debut.

Sleepers
Dean Wilson hasn't been able to duplicate his breakout 2006 campaign, but with seven top-25 finishes and over $1 million in earnings, he hasn't exactly gone belly up, either. He comes to LaCantera with three consecutive top-seven finishes under his belt, including a T3 in 2004 and a T2 in 2006. 2007 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic champion Charley Hoffman went into hibernation for most of the summer, but he's started to play better in recent weeks. He has three straight top-25 finishes and tied for eighth in his Valero Texas Open debut a year ago. Finally, keep an eye on rookie Johnson Wagner. Wagner was runner-up to Campbell last week at the Viking Classic and has carded four top-20 finishes in his last five starts. Oh, and he was born and raised in Amarillo, TX? so he's got that going for him, which is nice.

The Field
It wouldn't do fantasy golfers much good to play their top draft pick when he doesn't plan on teeing it up, which is why fantasy owners have to be very cognizant of who is playing each week. As a courtesy, we've provided this link to the official field as provided by PGATOUR.com.

Valero Texas Open official field.

Note: It's a good idea to check this list for the official field of players again on Wednesday, as it is not unusual for golfers to drop out of tournaments in the days leading up the first round.

Player Trends
It's not a fool-proof indicator of future success, but golfers who fare well at a particular venue tend to do so time and again. With that in mind, we provide a list of players who have notable trends at this week's event (most recent results are listed first).

The Good
Dean Campbell (T2, 7, T3)
Justin Leonard (Two wins, two runner-up finishes in nine appearances)
Steve Flesch (Two top-12 finishes in last three appearances)
J.J. Henry (T5, T5, T29, T34, T2, T59)
Bob Estes (T15, T15, T17, Cut, T10, T4 in last six tries)

The Bad
Tim Herron (No finishes better than T29 in six tries since his 1997 victory)
Tom Pernice Jr. (Cut, Cut, T58 the only three times he's played LaCantera)
Robert Gamez (His 2005 win is his only top 10 in 13 attempts)
John Huston (Just one top 10 in 13 appearances)
Bo Van Pelt (T63, T29, T44, Cut)

The Ugly
Mark Brooks (Just two top-10 finishes in 23 tries)

Weekly Rankings

3. Steve Flesch
4. Dean Wilson
5. J.J. Henry
6. Johnson Wagner

Baird +100 ov Frazar 72 holes 3 units

Frazar, while he played well last week, has missed the cut in 9 of his last 11 tourney's and 17 of the 27 tourney's he's been in this year. By contrast Baird has only missed 5 cuts all year.

Only worry is Frazar does have 2 tops tens the past 2 years at this event, but with his form this year, I am liking Baird

Come on let's keep the cut at -1. Frazar sitting at E. Barid played well today to get it to -3. Would like to have my wager in the bag today and not have to sweat it out on the weekend.
