I thought I would get opinions here because there are very few Tech people on here.
Backstory: Nigel Bethel is an frosh at Tech that arrived in June to start working out. He's a 4 star recruit out of Miami and was a big get for Kingsbury and his staff. From his twitter account he seemed to be a good kid and was happy to be out of the world he was living in while in Miami.
A few weeks ago the story broke that he had been kicked off the team and was also kicked out of school. He was playing basketball in the University Center where all students go to play ball. This includes non athletes, bball team players, football players and the women bball team players. He was playing against one of the girl basketball players and ended up hitting her and breaking her jaw. Shortly after he was kicked out. At that point I agreed with kicking him and didn't want a player like that representing our school.
Today: Apparently he had charges filed against him but today the news broke that the grand jury said they wouldn't be indicting him. They also wrote a letter to the school, AD and coach Kingsbury saying they thought the dismissal was unjust and he should be reinstated as a student and football player and that his punishment should be the same as the girl he hit. Their reason for this. Battle(girl bball player) lied to police and said she turned around after being fouled by Bethel and he hit her. Real story is there is a video of everything that happened and what she said was untrue. 8 minutes before this all happened Bethel had fallen from being fouled and when he went to stand up she pushed him back down. A few minutes later she pushed another male that was playing in the same game. And as for the punch, well she went up for a rebound and was fouled by Bethel. She turned around and hit him in the side of the head as he was turning to run down the court. He then turned and hit her back.
So now he's kicked out of school and football and she's suspended for a few games this fall. To me she should get equal to him if not more of a punishment. She hit him first and then lied to the police about what happened.
I'm sure I've left some out but that's the gist of the story. What are some no Tech peoples thoughts?
