Texas is only -13.5 against UNC.
What am I missing, UNC did beat Syracuse, but lost to Miami at home, and last year Texas destroyed them and they had a better defense last year.
I am probably missing something since I haven't seen much of Texas.

At the beginning of the season, I would have told you this year's Tarheel offense would suck. They score 21 vs. MiamiOH, but had 9 TO's. They put 30 on the Cuse, 14 of those in the 4th Q. Durant has played well in spots, but not consistently. Yes, this is Mack Brown's return to Chapel Hill, but no one on this team played for him. It's the fans and admin that are still pissed at Brown, but fans don't play the game, do they? I believe Texas will lay the smack down early, get the crowd out of the game. Then look for UNC to play tough in the 2nd half and get a back door here. That's why I like UNC +14.

Hmmm, betting against my own team is hard to do, but, I may end up doing it:rolleyes: Being ever so close to walking on my freshman year (until I blew my shoulder out a week before spring ball with the Horns) and following them closely with my buddies that still play for the Horns, Mack Brown is the biggest "just lay down with a touchdown or two lead" coach i know. It seems that the Horns get up a little bit, and then put it on cruise control. Mack brown is a great recruiter, but sucks at motivating in my opinion. This was seen in the season opener against North Texas. Texas comes out FLAT in the second half, plays like crap, just going thru the motions, and Vasher makes a bone-head stupid mistake on Defense that cost us some yards that was easily preventable. The Def. Back coach goes over there and gives Vasher an earful, and what does Mack do--goes over and consoles Vasher, pats him on the shoulder, and tells him its gonna be ok. THe DB coach looks at Mack in disgust, and turns around. I mean, it is a rarity to see Mack in the players face motivating them. I dunno, Texas can win some games, but when it comes to Spurrier-type scores, and big games, Mack falls flat on his face and comes no where near expectations........All i can say is OU will definately check our oil.........if not sooner.........

i wouldnt overreact to the second half of the Texas game.
UNT isn't a great squad, but they do have experience players returning almost the whole squad from last year (hey, UNT went to a bowl game last year!) :D

the defense still played well and kept UNT from scoring. the offense was pretty sharp in the first half. they were flat the second half but it may be a little harder to get motivated against a team you're blowing out already (unless you're Kansas State).

Mack Brown was pretty pissed off from that 2nd half showing and he (and the team) has been getting RIPPED by a lot of people locally.

Texas played one game and it's hard to judge how they are going to play based on that....I hate betting on my team, and in fact i usually fade them as they are always overpriced. but this might be a good spot to lay the 13. i dont think Mack wants to squeak by with a 7 point win here, even against his old team.

and I do agree OU will spank us again....though our chances might be better with Hybl there instead of White.

After 2 weeks of being drilled in practice over UNT problems, I think UT will come out more than ready to stomp someones ass - especially the OL has obviously caught a lot of blame from the UNT Game -- I'm sure they will be out to prove that was one game.

There's not a single position on the field where UNC is better, or even comparable. Hell, there's no position where they're even close. This one's over at halftime.

Texas 48, UNC 10. Maybe worse.

And to you two "fans" up above. Already admitting defeat to the Sooners and saying "OU will spank us"? I wonder how many injuries will occur from all the bandwagon riders trying to jump back on after we beat OU this year? After watching their first two dismal games against less than mediocre teams, I'm convinced more than ever that we handle them this year. I think OU did a good job on Saturday of nutting up to win the game after experiencing a lot of setbacks. It was a credit to the poise and determination of the team but the better question is, "How did Alabama repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot with penalties, dropped passes, and turnovers and still almost beat OU in Norman?"

My belief that losing Roy Williams and Rocky Calmus would have a dramatic impact on the OU defense is coming true. I heard all of the OU backers proclaim that this defense is better, faster, more athletic, etc. I still don't buy it. Losing Williams made a huge difference against Alabama.

I also think losing White will really hurt their efforts to establish a serious run game this season. You could tell that they had geared their run attack around White's mobility and quickness. Hybl has none of it. Eventually, Rawls could end up at the reins of the OU offense. I also think you could see more of Jones, rather than Works or Griffin at RB. He is a definite horse. With his strength, he could make defenses respect the OU run game simply on draws and counters.

I was impressed that, when their backs were against the wall, the Sooners pulled the game out. But, the past two OU games make me believe that several losses are in OU's future this year. Texas will be one of them.

Monk,

I am an OU fan. but i am also a realist..

With some holes in our D. Holes in our O line. and White out of the picture Texas should take OU. Sooners just dont have the Offense..

however, what we do have going for us is this..........

Chris Simms!! He does not have the ability to

A. read a defense
and
B. perform under pressure

if Major would have played last year.. texas could have won by 20

GL

Go Sooners!!!

i am having years taken off my life watching Hybl and Q Carter going at it as I am sure that Monk is having Q and the Golden Boy play......but.....i think this is not a "big game" and Texas rolls.....38-13.....

as for OU.....OU has NO running game...poor offensive line and I can see UT giving them a beating this year......the Defense can only play well after 3 and outs so long and UT should be able to run right at them by the 2nd half fairly easily....OU is faster this year but will miss Calmus and Williams on the run very much against physical taems

Take this for what it's worth, but I've watched a lot of Tar Heel football over the last 5 years...I haven't missed a home game in that time span. I can cap their games fairly well because I've seen them play in all different types of situations, and have successfully capped both games this year. On paper, Texas does win just about every category. UNC's receivers have been outstanding though this season. Durant has been shaky early but seems to have settled. The young defense has held up better than I expected, although they have been somewhat susceptible to the run. I think UNC's secondary is very week, and can be picked apart if Texas does their homework and goes after a certain cornerback I'd like to see anywhere but on our field.

I guess the x-factor is indeed the whole situation with Mack Brown and the significance to the fans here in Chapel Hill. I guess it's a personal view of how much people think this really matters when capping. Now the ACC definitely is not the SEC or most other conferences for that matter, so UNC games usually don't have the "fever" associated with home games at other schools. Students usually just show up to the games with their student id and are allowed in. Very rarely are their tickets issued for games. The only 2 I can remember is NC State and Florida State 5 years ago (we were both undefeated, we were ranked # 5, they were 1.) I waited in line today for 4 hours for tickets, and all 15,000 student tickets were gone in 6 hours. You have to understand this is unheard of down here. Never have I seen it like this. Not many people forget that Mack Brown raised the level of our program and then sold us out for the money. Ironically, it is he who scheduled this game about 8 years ago.

So what does all of this rambling mean?? There has never been this much hype around a football game in chapel hill. Will it raise the level of play for UNC or cause Durant to choke and cough up the ball? Before the lines were out, I figured that the line would be -17 to -20. So when I saw the -13, I was very surprised. I'd say as a capper I'd have to take Texas and give up the points. The hype lasts only a short time into the game and then usually the better football team wins. But something feels a little different about this one to me. Good luck in whatever you take, but at this point I think you'd be ok to take Texas and run with it. I may change my mind, because I have a feeling this line will be pounded up.

I figure Texas will have the advantage because I believe the offense will be working on a short field most of the game.
Bunting has a habit of not playing field position when he need to. His defense is good, but his offensive play calling can be questionable and that leads to some turnovers. In my opinion Texas's defense will get some turnovers to set up the offense.
That is just my opinion though ahving listend to the Miami game on the radio and watching the Syracuse game.

Good Luck to everyone

Mack said id have to come on and earn a spot first on special teams. If i did that, and hustled and knew my stuff, possibly a back up at DB.....my biggest problem was that I was a "tweaner"........could have solved it with some juice in order to make the team, but I didnt want to take that easy way out. I could have made it if i wouldnt have screwed my shoulder up so bad.......it just sucked having to re-hab it and seeing all my buddies out there playing for em. But im atleast glad they got the chance to play:)
