ASTROS 6 MARLINS 3

Nothing like even the thought of some home cooking to get your team over the hump and get that first win of the season. Yes, the Astro's finally won one yesterday over the previously undefeated Reds. Now they bring their 1-5 record to home for their season home opener. What is interesting about this one, I have the Astro's at -133 so I ha to double check a few times to see that the Marlins and that horrific pen are actually favoured. My ratings have the Marlins pen as a failure (45%) and the Astro's a modest 63%.

But what may be the key to a Astro's win today is the Marlins inability to hit lefties. Even though the Marlins are playing .500 ball, they are 0-2 vs lefties batting just .225 with only 2 extra base hits. Against righties they are a robust .283. Not only do their bats and bullpen concern me but the absence of Stanton and the fielding. Already this year they have allowed 6 unearned runs and 6 errors. Nolasco pitched well in his first start against the Mets at home but this will be the Marlins first road contest. In his last 2 starts to the Astro's he has allowed 12 runs in 12 innings going 1-1. Rodriquez toes the rubber for the Stro's and he loves to face these Marlins.

In his last 3 starts against the Fish he has allowed just 3 earned runs in 21 innings while whiffing 24 and issuing just 4 free passes and 16 hits for a WHIP under 1.00. Only issue today is the Astro's .218 batting average but they have surrendered errors in just 2 ball games this year and home cooking, that's the key to success today.

The Astro's have won 4 of the last 6 vs the Marlins at home, Rodriquez is one tough lefty and that Marlins pen will help the Astro's start the year off 1-0 at home.

ASTROS WIN!
