Sorry to hear this, my 33 year old daughter has been fighting this disease since she was 18. There are different levels of it i am told and the severity at which it affects each person. Her's is very severe as it has attacked her kidney's and she is on dialisis waiting for kidney transplant.
My wife is nearly done with all the testing to give her a kidney, in fact she had a colonoskopy today and a stress test next week. My daughter has gone thru chemo and lots of steroids to try and keep the lupus in check but it only delayed the effects of it attacking her kidney's. She will never be able to have children because of all the drugs and chemo she went thru.

But on the lighter side of this the doctors say that after she has the kidney transplant nearly 90% of the people have the lupus go into remission. They can't explain why as there very little known about this disese. Stay strong and keep her strong to fight it and hopfully it does not affect her as my daughter. She will be in my prayers and good luck. Get my e=mail from jack if you want to talk more.

I know a little about it. I do know people can live happily for many years with this disease; it's not a death sentence.

My mother had it and fought it until she died 2 years ago at 57. She was diagnosed 2 years after my sister was born. So she had to live with it for a long time. It was a battle early on but with improvements in treatments it did help. Lupus attacks different organs and like turns on your own body. My mother had to deal with kidney failure, enlarged heart, and a list of other things. I will say a prayer for friend.

My brother just did the cure for lupus walk in Chicago. His girlfriends younger sister age 11 just found out she has it also. I hope with all the reseach being done now this disease will be a distant memory.

Most common in women from what I learned in the early 90's,...black women, then white women, black males, very rare for the white male. Not sure about Asians.

It is the immune system out of whack and attacking healthy organs...the exact opposite of AIDS, a breakdown of the immune system.

You just get it...BAM...not sexually transmitted.

Could I win the lottery...Yes, if I played...

Lupus....ding, ding, ding...WINNER

I have it...lucky me...white male...epidermally (skin, an organ). Internal Lupus goes after the kidneys, liver and other healthy organs.

I used to get tested once a year with blood work...to see if it shifted internal...haven't done it for a while.

Stress & diet plays the most havoc with me....Have been warned to stay out of the sun, just not going to do it. I wear a hat and am in the sun everyday

One of my best friends has lupus. White male at the age of 30-31 when he was diagnosed.

It was a real struggle at first, but he certainly was not the picture of perfect health ready to fight it.

After a good 12-18 month struggle, it has seemed to go "inactive" and with meds and semi-frequent blood tests, he seems to be back to pretty good.

He was going to be coming to the golf tourney in August but his radio show starts that day.

It could be trying times, but with friends and family everything is managable.
