what a ****ing prick Knight is.

I had a high school coach basketball coach that looked like him and talked to us like him.

I hated that coach too.

The only threat that Knight uses besides the
f word, is to run them to death in practice if they lose again.

Oh scare me coach. at 19 I could run all day.

For three decades, Bob Knight glowered on Indiana University's sidelines as college basketball's Wicked Stepfather. He stuffed a belligerent fan into a trash can during a Final Four. He berated his team's cheerleaders for distracting an IU player during a free throw. He head-butted one player and kicked another?who happened to be his son. In the end, he self-destructed, as so many predicted he would, fired amid allegations of choking a player, throwing a vase at a secretary, and breaking another son's nose and dislocating his shoulder during a hunting trip.

Despite his reputation for physical intimidation, Knight rules more by acid tongue than by iron fist. He forged his methods at West Point, where he took over as basketball coach when he was 24. He took Army to the semifinals of the National Invitation Tournament three times (and because of West Point's height requirements, he did it without a player over 6 feet 6). Two teams and 37 seasons later, he's still a foul-mouthed, hot-tempered drill sergeant who mercilessly derides his players and demands total obedience.

Bobby Knight Fired!!

So, a student calls him "Knight", Mr. Basketball grabs him by the arm and lectures him on the proper way to address his elders...sounds like reasonable grounds for dismissal to me. Having grown up with Mr. Knight (all respect intended) on TV, throwing chairs and chewing out referees, I have to wonder at what the real reasons for firing him were. The IU basketball program over the last 30 years was one of the most dominant sports dynasties of our generation. However, the last few years have been one scandal, accusations, and name calling. IU officials could never fire Mr. Knight for that, though. Bobby Knight ranks somewhere between Jesus and Larry Bird in the hearts of Hoosiers. It's the Liberal Elitists who run IU who called for his head.

The "Zero Tolerance Policy", instituted in May of this year, was clearly designed to trap Mr. Knight. Everyone in Indiana knows he could never live up to this standard of conduct, nor could ANY coach in the NCAA. Zero Tolerance stripped Mr. Knight of his rights as a coach to demand respect from his players and the media, while setting up an "ease out" for the cowards who run the university.

The game, I think, has passed people like Bobby Knight by. College Basketball players today are a reflection of the primadonnas of the NBA, playing the game not for the love of it, but for the golden pot of cash, fast cars, and paternity suits at the end of the rainbow. This is just another nail in the coffin of our beloved college basketball. Did Bobby Knight do anything wrong during the course of his 30 years at the helm? Of course he did. I think he did a lot more right, though.

The true fans of NCAA basketball will sorely miss you Mr. Knight. Indiana Basketball will flounder for years without you, not because a competant coach can't be found, but because Bobby Knight IS Indiana Basketball.

When my time at IU is done and
I am in the past, I want to tell my detracters
that I will bend over and you can kiss my ass.

Knight disrespects subordinates, peers, players, press, superiors (of which he believes there are none), and, most importantly, fans. Knight once stuffed an LSU fan into a hotel lobby trash can. When he berated and kicked his son and player Pat during a game several years ago, IU fans behind the bench were astounded. They booed him. He told them to f*** off. When Knight tossed a chair onto the floor in a game against Purdue some years back, he narrowly missed a section of wheelchair-bound IU boosters.

As his interview with ESPN showed, Knight to this day believes he's done nothing wrong. Ever. "I wouldn't change a thing," he said.

Sean Hannity likens Knight's popularity with his players, his more loyal coaches and his fans to the affinity boot camp plebes develop for a drill sergeant. I'd suggest it's more like Stockholm Syndrome, the affinity hostages harbor for their captors. Or, perhaps more accurately, it's similar to the unquestioning loyalty cult leaders harvest from the suckers they brainwash.
