Round 1 play (2pts):

Matt Kuchar to beat Webb Simpson -105 @ Bet365 [available generally]
Opposing Simpson in these end-of-season events as he tries to close in on the Money List title. He trails Luke Donald by less than $70,000, but he had been ahead before the Tour Championship and the pressure on him that week was apparent as he let slip his control of the $10 million prize. Admittedly, he did play well here, but his interviews have been dominated by the contest for the Arnold Palmer Trophy and that will dominate his game this week. Kuch should just need to maintain his steady record of accumulating top-25 finishes to prevail in this matchup.

Between Green Bay and Iowa City
I?ve been capping and wagering on golf since signing up with my first offshore book in 2001.

Beginning in 2003, every season seemed to bring nice profits through about May or June, followed by giving some or most of those profits back during the second half of the season.

The 2009 season was no different, peaking with Lucas Glover(200/1) in the U.S. Open at Bethpage (and Ross Fisher(125/1) in 4th), and then not much thereafter in the second half of the season.

But then came the 2010 season, which was easily my worst campaign ever, and the 2011 season through the Masters was more of the same. So my disappointment was large when David Toms(80/1) in The Players was my biggest play of the season this year, and he failed to get us across the finish line, despite an awesome display of golf and a 3 shot lead with 11 holes to go.

Finally, after only a few morsels here and there over two full years since Lucas Glover (and where and how they came escape me at the moment), along came Darren Clarke, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson and Thomas Bjorn at the 140th Open Championship, occupying the Top 4 places at odds ranging from 45/1 to 200/1, and a corner was turned, because since then it?s been Bjorn in Switzerland, Kevin Na in Las Vegas and now Bryce Molder last week. Not only has my longest slump ever been put to rest, but now this is easily my best ever second half of a season since I started back in 2001. Surprised, but very relieved, am I.

Enough about me.

Outrights:

Zach Johnson(25/1) e.w.
- - The obvious angles, including his McGladrey connections, salted with some residual faith therein from this here capper.

Paul Goydos(125/1) e.w.
- - Really liked his chances last week, then hated his chances when I read his comment after the first round that the course was a bomber?s course, now back to liking his chances unless and until I find out he can?t get the hang of the supposedly very grainy greens.

David Toms(25/1) e.w.
- - Probably a bit early for a display of evidence he will be a leader and a force come the President?s Cup.

Trevor Immelman(70/1) e.w.
- - Don?t know about the greens.

Davis Love(80/1) e.w.
- - A delusional hunch with seeds planted way back by his early season play and comments, will leave it at that.

Bryce Molder(40/1) e.w.

- - A standing rule with me to never pick up a winning marker unless I perceive compelling reasons to do so. Last week I thought Na had no shot at anything serious on the heels of his victory, and I was confounded by his strong 15th place finish. I actually read a couple of items that have overcome my initial perception on Molder similar to the strong doubts I had about Na last week, so 1 + 1 = 2 and a play is required.

2nd round everywhere

Kuchar -115 over Simpson

going with Stanley theory especially now, looking for the turnaround. Maybe Kuch was a little rusty after taking off 2 weeks in a row for the first time since early May.

Round 2 play (4pts):

David Hearn to beat Billy Horschel -125 @ 5Dimes
Backing Hearn to continue his good form - in his last three starts, he has finished 6th, 5th and 7th. That form has seen him secure his Tour Card for next season as he currently lies in 102nd place in the Money List with just one more week to go after this event. The situation is not so good for Horschel who lies 139th and he needs a big week this week - if he maintains his current 3rd place he would only rise to 116th so he cannot afford one indifferent round. With that pressure on him, Hearn is the more likely to continue the good form.

Round 4 play (2pts):

Webb Simpson to beat Trevor Immelman -145 @ The Greek [available generally]
Simpson has impressed this week and while he is only two shots off the lead, a maintenance of his current 3rd place position will be a huge step towards winning the Money title next week, so I don't see him being overly aggressive today. However, the play is largely against Immelman. He also starts the day in 3rd place, but this is a rare occurence: he has started the final round in top-5 just once in the last 2 1/2 years. Admittedly, he has struggled with injury in previous seasons, but Simpson has still finished ahead of him in 19 of their last 22 common events and while his new Callaway driver has seen him hit a lot more fairways this week, he still ranks 66th of 70 in greens in regulation. The great end to his round yesterday excepted - six-under-par over five holes - he has not been playing well enough to maintain a top-3 position.

[unofficial rd4 system plays: Furyk tb Weekley -170; Hearn tb Herman -150; Molder tb Glover -120; Streelman tb Cabrera -120; Furyk tb Snedeker -111; Streelman tb Blanks -120]
