Will only have one play this week. I need to get back to showing a little restraint and using money management. That is the key to gambling. Well that and picking winners. Looks like Justin Rose withdrew. I'm not too familiar with the world map but I dont think the flight from England to Ohio is that far, so jet lag shouldn't be a factor. Speaking of the world.. My early pick to win the Mrs Universe tonight is Mrs Peru.

They definately did not have 18 year olds like this when we were younger :com:

Like always good luck this week.. should be a really strong field

Why is Ernie still bein overvalued, his putting and driving accuracy have been awful
Is Furyk back to being the second or third best player on tour

If for no other reason, the world's best regularly flock to Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, OH out of respect for the tournament's venerable host, Jack Nicklaus. The Nicklaus-designed track is his crown jewel, and the tournament has produced a list of champions on par with any other event on TOUR. With a couple of exceptions, the big boys have all made their way to Middle America this weekend for a tournament that has plenty of fantasy golf implications.

The Favorites
We're this close to have a separate paragraph called "Tiger Woods Will Win This Tournament" just before "The Favorites," but for now suffice it to say that the three-time champ is the overwhelming favorite this week. As usual, the Memorial features a very strong field, so most of the usual suspects also fit into this category. Jim Furyk is also a former champion and should not be taken lightly coming off last week's playoff loss. Zach Johnson may be the hottest player on the planet and could solidify himself as one of the world's elite with another victory this week; it's not out of the question considering he tied for second at Muirfield Village a year ago. Ernie Els has had a lot of success at this event in the past, but the state of his game is unclear. He's been all over the map both here and in Europe this season, so time will only tell which Els shows up in Ohio. Vijay Singh has also contended on a regular basis at the House that Jack Built, so don't be surprised to see him lurking near the top of the leaderboard on Sunday.

The Best of the Rest
It's easy to hope that Adam Scott has momentum coming off a T6 at the Players Championship a few weeks back, but suffice it to say that consistency has never been one of his strong suits. He did tie for fourth at the Memorial last year, however, so don't count him out. Geoff Ogilvy and Luke Donald don't have a single top-10 finish at this event between them (nine total appearances), but both are capable of winning every time they tee it up. Defending champion Carl Pettersson isn't the type you'd assume would defend his title, but he has been playing better over the last few months after enduring an early-season slump.

Who's Hot?
Bernhard Langer: The venerable German has made the cut seven times in 11 events this season. On those seven occasions, he has five top 25s and four top 10s.

Jose Maria Olazabal: Could JMO be heating up? The Spaniard's two best starts of the season have come in the last two weeks, including an impressive T3 at the Players Championship last time out.

Who's Not?
Rocco Mediate: Rocco was a feel-good story after his runner-up finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in February, but since then he's dropped off the map; missing the cut twice and failing to finish better than T44 in his last five tournaments.

Bubba Watson: Bubba has two top-five finishes since the beginning of April, but he's also missed the cut or withdrawn three times in that same span ? including his last two events.

Player Trends
It's not a fool-proof indicator of future success, but golfers who fare well at a particular venue tend to do so time and again. With that in mind, we provide a list of players who have notable trends at this week's event (most recent results are listed first).

The Good
Bart Bryant (T18, Win, T66)
Stewart Cink (T12, T45, T40, 6, T9, 4)
Paul Azinger (one win and six top 10s in 19 appearances)
K.J. Choi (T62, T8, 5, T13)
Kenny Perry (T24, T6, Win, T60, T7, T39, T11)

The Bad
Steve Stricker (no top 10s, just one finish of better than T24 in eight tries)
Robert Allenby (just one top 10 in 10 attempts)
Luke Donald (Cut, T45, T52)
Rod Pampling (T18, T73, Cut, Cut, T49)
Jonathan Byrd (Cut, Cut T29, Cut)

The Ugly
Pat Perez (Cut, Cut, Cut, Cut)

Weekly Rankings
1. Tiger Woods
2. Jim Furyk
3. Zach Johnson
4. Phil Mickelson
5. Vijay Singh

Outright plays (total stake per play: 1pt)

Jim Furyk to win 18/1 e.w. @ Stan James, Victor Chandler, Boyle Sports
It was a welcome return to his early season form for Furyk last week even though he lost out in the playoff. And when you rank 1st for greens in regulation and 2nd for putts per green in regulation on the week, you really do deserve victory. It didn't happen last week, but this is a very good time to hit top form. Not only is Jack's event such a prestigious one - and one that Furyk won in 2002 - but the U.S. Open is now only a few weeks away. Furyk looks to be back to his best and that doesn't just mean he should give himself a chance to win, but he also becomes a very consistent top-10 finisher which makes these odds decent value primarily for the place component.

Adam Scott to win 28/1 e.w. available generally
Scott will never be a consistent top-10 performer, but he does convert a good proportion of his chances to win and he did that in the Houston Open last month. In his last outing he finished 6th in the Players Championship and a year ago he finished 4th on this course. And having been in 4th and 3rd position after the opening round in his previous two visits, this is clearly a course on which he feels comfortable. Less value in the place component for these odds, but 28/1 to win looks more than fair for this player.

Brett Wetterich to be first round leader 80/1 e.w. @ Bet365, Paddy Power
I wouldn't back Wetterich to win this event, but there is certainly good reason to consider him for the first round leader market. He has led after the opening round in two of fourteen starts this year and they have been against strong fields (Mercedes-Benz Championship and The Masters), but would not should another round under 70 in each event afterwards. He was 2nd after the opening round of the Byron Nelson Championship a month ago, but still finished in 10th place. In fact, last year's Memorial Tournament was one of the few events in which he has managed to maintain a strong opening round - he was 3rd after round 1 - and finish highly: he was runner-up to Carl Pettersson. So 80/1 to be first round leader when he has a morning tee-time looks good value.

There he is. Picking 2 of the guys i really liked this week :00hour Good to see we both jumped off the Els Bandwagon. If furyk even ranked midway in the field last week in putts he wins by 7 shots. Good Luck Stan

Between Green Bay and Iowa City
Winter and spring have always been my time of the year in golf capping. Now we transition to summer, and sure enough I don't really don't recall the Memorial being one of my high flying events . . . And for a third straight week I'm needing to cash something from one of my plays to maintain a presence on the Golf Forum Recap Leaderboard (YTD) . . . Read elsewhere that 9 of the last 10 winners here had at least 3 Top 10's already in the year (Bart Bryant the only exception with 8th, 9th and 12th place finishes), although to be fair it needs to be noted this is a top class field with players that have a tendency of finishing Top 10 . . . Will be supplementing these plays and editing these write ups until just before the off.

Outrights:

Brett Wetterich(100/1) e.w.
- - Still hits a limited range of notes with his game/shotmaking/style of play, IMO, but shades of Sabbatini in streaks of cocky form that seem to be in his nature. Stir the brew with the gaps in his season to date and his experiences in this tournament, and he comes up big on my radar for this week.

Stuart Appleby(80/1) e.w.
- - It's not a high fade, but otherwise I've always thought Muirfield Village presented a really nice fit for his game, and I've backed him every year since he found the Ohio gal that shines as his perfect soul mate . . .Applebly thinks his time in a major is just around the corner ( http://www.golf.com/golf/tours_news/article/0,28136,1578494,00.html ); uncharacteristically strong showings at Augusta and Sawgrass suggest his game and focus are primed in that direction. All in all, I think Muirfield Village is a better fit than Oakmont and offers a strong possibility of "popping early".

Aaron Baddeley(125/1) e.w.
- - Here in June of 2007 Badds has very much taken his game to the next level he seemed destined to explore since his days as a teenage genius. I see a player that can thrive on Nicklaus' signature design.

Zach Johnson(28/1) e.w.
- - I've always needed a compelling reason to pick up a winning marker, and I'm not idiot enough to think it over and decide this week offers such compelling circumstances.
