Well if he were coaching in the NFL today he might say that when you return a kickoff from the endzone 4 things can happen and three of them are bad.
1 Fumble. Happened last night may have cost the Jets the game. I've seen a few this year
2. Penalty. This happens a lot
3. Don't make it to the 20 yard line, really happens a lot.
Pretty high risk for the small reward of starting on the 25 or 30.
My guess is that a KO return for a TD is rarer than a safety in today's NFL
