Not sure how many I'll be playing this week, but I know I'm playing this one, and I know I'm playing it big

A few reasons behind this play:

- I'm not really a fan of players competing the week before a major, especially if it's on the other side of the world - Johnson has played the last 3 weeks including playing close to home in his last - he was in contention early and then faded, suggesting he is not in top form - guessing he wasn't even considering preparing for this week until he got to England, which was probably yesterday at the earliest - meanwhile, Scottie has probably been prepping for at least a week, and should definitely be the fresher of the 2 both physically and, perhaps more importantly, mentally this week

- Johnson is 0 for 2 making the cut at The Open - and while Verplank hasn't had a remarkable Open career, he has tasted success, with 2 top-25's in the last 2 years including a 7th place finish in 2004 - BIG advantage here

- Attitude is important in the Open - there are those who love it and those who hate it - and reading some of Verplank's quotes suggests that he is one who sincerely enjoys links golf:

"I love playing here. It is the last link to what golf is supposed to be to be honest," Verplank said. "We have changed it so much in the United States it is a totally different game to what it is supposed to be - so I really enjoy playing over here."

A native Texan, Verplank enjoys the conditions here because they remind him of what he faced when he first started to play the game.

"They water everything where I play now," Verplank said. "I grew up on hard pan and kind of rough and bumpy greens and firm conditions so I enjoy this a lot more than when we are playing at home and it is 7,500 yards long and it is raining.

- Stats - Verplank enjoys significant advantages in what should be 3 impt stats this week - scrambling, putting and sand saves

So what we have is a fresher golfer who is better prepared, better suited to this course and who thoroughly enjoys this type of golf against a potentially worn down golfer who has never made the cut in The Open - and by the looks of things, people are playing Zach (line has dropped to -110)

Playing this one very big

Will most likely be back with a few more plays but this one is for real money - GL to all no matter which sides you choose

I followed you for 5 hundred on that matchup. Thank you sir, good job on the reasonings for your play. I also used Verplank over Perry for a small amount, and that looks good also. Great handicapping on your part.

Wow guys, tried to put the jinx on us but we hold up in the end - I should know better than to make a post like that before the fat lady sings - actually a pretty tough effort from Zach just to sniff the cut line after his start today

Now it's with house $$ - let's see if we can dig up another one for this weekend.....

Glad to be waking up to a solid round by Verplank - Scott could not make a putt the 1st 2 days (65 total putts thru 1st 2 rounds) - he must have finally gotten the flat stick going - anyway......

3rd Round Matchups:

McDowell +106 vs. Sabbatini

Have another guy in McDowell who has 65 putts thru the first 2 days - Rory has 55 - also have to wonder how Rory will hold up playing behind ultra-slow Crane who goes out with Graeme in the group directly ahead of him - Sabbatini playing with Thaworn Wiratchant whom I'm not familiar with but obviously has the potential to blow up - let's see if McDowell can hole a few putts and polish off the tempermental South African\

Els to win +305

Not handing this to Tiger just yet, although it's hard not to - penned The Big Easy to have a good week and told a few friends to play him to win after Thursday's 1st round - obviously less value now but he's right there and he's healthy, and overnight he went from +150 against Woods today down to +137 - might back up this play with a little on Els vs Tiger for today's round

GL all - 1st matchup listed today is the bigger play for those interested - hope to pick up some more $$ and be back for tom.'s final round

4th Round

Verplank +140 vs Goosen

Verplank finally found putting stroke, has yet to be in a bunker, and is playing for Ryder Cup points - Goosen admittedly lacks confidence and seems to be fading fast

Els to win +501

Will gladly take the funds I saved on the Els vs Tiger push and reinvest in Ernie to win - played a horrible round and finds himself just one stroke back - expect The Big Easy to play a lot better on Sunday and take home another Open Championship

GL no matter which sides you choose

Taking Woods over Garcia at Pinnacle with the juice at -197. No way Garcia can take the heat. ESPECIALLY since he is paired with Woods. This line should be about -600 IMO.

IS -

I'd be careful with Woods vs Sergio today - no real reasoning to offer, just a gut feeling, but I really think that is a bad line the other way - too much evidence that suggests Sergio has no chance today, and it seems to me that everyone thought this tourney was over after Friday morning - well Tiger let the field back in yesterday and I honestly feel he has his work cut out today

And as far as the line on Verplank, I think they need to make Retief a decent sized fave over Scott - line was +150 earlier on Saturday, but given the current form of both players I agree the line should be pick, therefore the play on Verplank

I agree the line should be a PK. I was implying that the books know this and are setting a trap with Verplank.

As for Tiger vs. Sergio. The line is up to -225. Any book that offered this is going to pay for their mistake on offering this.

Understood your point - can't hang a pick on Verplank vs Goosen, just like you can't hang a pick on Verplank vs Els or Verplank vs Mickelson

Looks like you were right about Sergio IS - Verplank comes back from a double with a birdie on 9 to cut gap to one - this one is not over yet.....
