Outrights:
Zach Johnson(50/1) e.w.
- - In this event it?s fair to say I need reasons for not backing Zach (and it?s fair to say that over the long haul that approach has not really yielded dividends). But as it is, I?m not seeing reasons here and now to abandon ship . . . I?m on him at 80/1, but I?ll post at the currently available 50/1.
Jason Day(14/1) e.w.
- - Nothing greatly excites me about this selection, but I?m not picking up this winning marker.
Phil Mickelson(33/1) e.w.
- - Since Bay Hill I?ve had my eye on Tiger for this event, but I soured a bit after last week, and I don?t see a Mickelson pairing doing him any favors, IMO now needing to emerge after a full four days in the cauldron . . . On the other hand, Phil definitely surprised me with no significant rust last week, and he has definitely found some answers throughout his bag with staying power. IMO Lefty has also demonstrated good, selective use of his driver in the past on the holes at Sawgrass where that troublesome club will be asked to produce. And I can see the Tiger/Rickie grouping as a stepping stone to being nicely engaged into the weekend.
Phil(33/1) e.w. and Jason Day(18/1) are now carrying my cash for the stern U.S. Open examination at Shinnecock.
Henrik Stenson(28/1) e.w.
- - Appeals to me off his best ever Masters.
Lucas Glover(175/1) e.w.
- -
Billy Horschel(55/1) e.w.
- - Streaky, with an excellent opportunity for making some noise at a place he wants it ?better than most.?
Ian Poulter(60/1) e.w.
- - I can?t say no over others on my short off list showing the likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Kevin Kisner, Alex Noren, Cameron Smith, Brian Harman, Pat Perez, Adam Hadwin, and Nick Watney.
Pat Perez(100/1) e.w.
