Since I got nuthin? on the game tonight, I thought I?d give yuz my viewa the upcoming playoffs. To wit:
AFC
The Steel, the Raid and the Swimming Mammals are in the driver?s seat for division titles, with P?burgh (10-2 anda a game ahead of O?land) having the best shot at earning the number one seed.
Acourse, the way the season has gone the Steelers might have trouble with the winless Detroit Lyin?s at home two weeks from now, but realistically, their only remaining possible glitch seems to be next Sunday night at Baldymore. And the Cowher boys are two games up on the Rave in the Central.
Don?t worry, Jack, Baltimore (8-4) should be one wild card, simply because they?re still better than most of their adversaries.
New England (8-5) still has an outside shot at winning the East if it beats Miami at home on Dec. 22 but should make the playoffs either way. I mean, their other two games are against the Buff and the Pants. Ya see what I?m sayin??
That leaves the Jets (7-5), Denver (7-6), Cleveland and Seattle (both (6-6) challenging for the final spot. The Jets have a history of December swoons anda tough schedule; Denver has major injury problems; Cleveland may be too young; and Seattle is erratic at best.
Take your pick? I?ll say Denver.
NFC
It looks like five teams are cinches over here. The Rams (10-2), Packers, Bears and 49ers (all 9-3) are dead mortal locks. And the Eagles at 8-4 are two games ahead in the East. The last team should come from Tampa Bay and New Orleans (both 7-5) or unbelievably? Washington (6-6).
A scan of the schedule shows that the Eags may be vulnerable. They have three road games coming (at Washington, San Francisco and Tampa Bay) what?re anything but gimmies. Granted, Philadelphia is 5-0 on the road thus far, but they ain?t traveled to teams of this caliber all year.
Tampa Bay, a traditionally strong finisher, goes to Chi-Town next week, then finishes with three daunting home games in a row ? N?Orleans, B-more and Philly. Evidently, much of the NFC picture will be developed in the joint with the boat.
The Deadskins, 6-1 after the 0-5 start, finish with Philadelphia and Chicago at home, go to New Orleans, and then come home to face Arizona. Guess what. If they win them all, they probably win the East! Can it happen? I dunno, but yuz must admit... they do gotta Schottenheimer.
BTW ? nice 5-0 yesterday, Redsfann. You got me shakin? like a little girl.
