Looks like most everyone had a nice debut of the racing season
at Daytona. Let keep it up!

Here are a few things to consider:

Over the past 6 years the average finish at Rockingham for the
500 winner is 14th.

Rusty, Jarrett, Gordon and B Labonte have consisting ran good at the Rock.

Jeff Burton has run well at the Rock but this new one-engine rule
could really affect him. Burton traditionally qualifies very bad.
and not being able to change engine is not good.

the Yates team will benefit from this with their strong engine program.

Will the Gibbs team get their engines problem fixed?
they struggled all weekend and Stewart blew up. B labonte ran
good but you could tell that after Stewart blew, he just was committed to pushing it.

Dale Jr. has not ran good over his short career.

Just something to think about, be back after qualifying.

you might want to look at Kyle Petty if you can get him in a favorable match-up the Rock is one of his better tracks. he is one of those guys no one really pays attention to.

Starting up front crucial at The Rock

Starting up front crucial at The Rock

Starting up front crucial at The Rock

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. - The gritty surface of North Carolina Speedway results in performance inhibiting tire wear, and therefore makes the potential for getting caught up in someone else?s mistake quite high.

Staying ahead of the mess is crucial. Hence, the importance of a successful Bud Pole Qualifying effort at the 1.017-mile track is not easily understated.

Since the inaugural NASCAR Winston Cup Series race at Rockingham in 1965, the race has been won from the pole 15 times, making it the most productive starting position.

The most proficient qualifier of late -- who also happens to be the defending Bud Pole winner -- has been defending Winston Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon. Gordon coursed The Rock last year at 156.455 mph in 23.401 seconds, some three-tenths of a second off of Rusty Wallace?s track record pace set in February 2000.

Most of Gordon's success at Rockingham has come in the February event, in which he has tallied three wins, two poles and four top-five finishes. In fact, Gordon has qualified ninth or better, including two Bud Poles, in 16 of 18 NASCAR Winston Cup races at Rockingham.

Having finished the Daytona 500 in ninth position after contending all day, he is excited to return to Rockingham.

"I've always said that you don't need a good finish in the Daytona 500 in order to win the championship," Gordon said. "Going into Rockingham with a top-10 already under our belt is certainly encouraging. Now we won't have to play catch-up like we have the last couple seasons.?

Being that the top-four starting positions have produced 44 victories (60 percent), playing catch-up is what a bad qualifying effort here is all about.

Mark Martin and Kyle Petty lead all active drivers each with five Bud Poles at Rockingham, while Terry Labonte has garnered four. Labonte swept both poles in 1985, captured his third straight in the spring of 1986 and then went 20 races before gaining his fourth pole at Rockingham in the spring of 1996, a year in which he would go on to win the championship.

The most recent time a NASCAR Winston Cup victory was scored from the Bud Pole at Rockingham was by Gordon in the 1995 Goodwrench 500, the last 500-mile race here. The farthest back a Rockingham has ever started was 30th, by Neil Bonnett in the 1988 Goodwrench 500.

The worst start for a race winner since the event was reduced to 400 miles was 28th by Bobby Hamilton in the 1997 ACDelco 400. Since the 400-mile format was introduced, there have been 11 different Bud Pole winners in 14 races. Martin (fall 1999, fall 1998 and spring 1997) and Gordon (spring 1995 and spring 2001) are the only pole winners during that time.

The Winston Cup Series qualifies Friday at 3 p.m. (Fox Sports Net, MRN Radio).

Qualifying match ups: Gordon -125 over B.Labonte OLY

1837 -

Gordon has his worst spot @ the Rock ever currently 30th (worst start @ the rock was 28th)(out of 40 drivers), B Labonte is 13th. I made the Martin play over J. Burton so I may cover. Craven has the pole right now, who would have thunk it?

Are the positions set for the race final now???? I have #13 position for the race, saw Bobby Labonote had that slot in an earlier post. Wouldnt mind BL for the race ;)

Does betting on auto racing mean I have to drink Bud, grow a beard and listen to the country song "Its alright to be a Redneck"

Thanx
