Fletch,

its funny you noticed this. I was thinking the same thing. I missed the first quarter, but on the punt for Miss st, i noticed that 3 seconds ran off the clock after the whistle was blown...total hometown

It happens at times in the college game. A couple extra seconds tick off after the play is dead. Haven't seen 5 seconds yet, though.

I agree Fletch.......this is ****in ridiculous. Every time the clock is stopped for anything there are anywhere from 3-8 seconds lost.

I watched the replay of the game last night on ESPN and it wasn't even close to being the correct time. On almost every single deadball time would run off. At one point Miss St. completes a first down pass and the whistle is blown and the clock stopped on time @ 12:01. Three seconds later it dropped to 12:00 and stopped and then another 3-4 seconds went by and the chains were setup and play continued.

I thought this year the official clock was going to be kept on the field and not by the home scoreboard because of the long second in the Mich v Mich St game last year. Is that correct?

Ha! Glad I'm not the only one that noticed this either. I was telling my brother the exact same thing last night while we were watching it. Serious home cookin!

Most notably, I remember when Auburn scored right before the half and I looked at the clock and it had :13 seconds left. I get up to get a beer, come back and they actually ADDED a second to make it :14 seconds left! Not that it mattered but how does anyone justify adding a second to the clock after a TD, especially when they stopped it as soon as he scored?

They need to investigate shit like that.

I have noticed the time clock issue as well and last night it really seemed out of wack. You must keep in mind that the clock operator ignores the whistle and soley looks for an official to signal to stop the clock (i.e waving two hands over his head). This is generally the line judges call on sideline plays. All other officials on the field are instructed to also give the signal once they see the ruling offical make the call. The referee then has the power to put time back on the clock if there is a breakdown in this system.

Often times in the rush of the moment the ref does not always make his signal along with the whistle. He has two immediate responsibilities when the ball carrier goes out of bounds first is to make the spot and secondly to stop or wind the clock.

Also the clock operator in the NCAA and even in highschool games (at least here in GA) is an official not a hommer as you might believe.

I did a post on this back with the first or second Wisky game. I was on under so it was ok. But I believe a extra minute was ran of in total. I remember asking you guys if the clock rules had changed.
