A look back at this past weekend from a bettor?s point-of-view

The ?dogs? were howling yesterday as four of the top10 teams in the nation were caught ?looking ahead?. Most books put up monster numbers this weekend and we were no different, but the thing I always find most interesting in checking the figures after a wipeout weekend are the big winners that emerge. We had a number of players who knocked it out of the park. Steve and Mark (Cousins from Lansing, Mich.) both hit 4 team parlays using underdogs and played all four NCAA underdog winners in round robins to boot! Needless to say Steve and Mark cashed big and they both have a FedEx coming their way.
There is gold in them there hills and the end of the regular season is great time to pan for it. The home team underdog in college sports is generally acknowledged as one of the strongest handicapping angles going. Couple that with extra incentives such as ?revenge? factors, injuries, scheduling or yesterday?s biggie, the ?look ahead? game and you have a strong handicapping vehicle. Each of the games we will look at had a common thread beyond being road favorites. They are all headed to the ?big dance? and played unranked opponents leaving little motivation to go all out.
Sunday bloody Sunday saw unbeaten, #1 ranked Illinois fall asleep at the wheel squandering a second half lead blowing their bid for a perfect season by losing outright to an inferior Ohio St. team 64-65. #3 Kentucky lost outright 52-53 at Florida. #7 Kansas fell to unranked Missouri 68-72, and wrapping it up was #4 Wake Forest who managed to hold on for a narrow two point win 55-53 at N.C. St., but failed to cash tickets or cover.
The conference tournaments are now upon us and offer great value for the smart bettor. Do you homework, pick your spots and make it a winning week.
Until next week, when we?ll break it all down again?.
