This past weekend's action from a bookmaker's point-of-view
By Jimmy Mason, Director of Sportsbook Operations, www.betcom.com

This weekend was a wash for the house. After a Saturday full of surprises when everything seemed to fall the way of the book, Sunday saw nearly everything go the other way with all the big name, fan favorite pitchers leading their teams to easy victories.

Saturday?s first surprise was Jae Weong Seo and the Mets knocking off future hall of famer Greg Maddux and the Cubbies 2-0. The Cubs opened at a pick?em -105 and moved ten cents to close at -115. Next up was another fan favorite Roy Oswalt and the Astros falling to the ho-hum Giants after opening at -185 and rising to as high at -210. The evening session saw the Tigers favored -125 over the Indians. I told our head linesmaker as soon as I saw that line that it seemed like a ?trap game? and that the line should be the other way around with the Indians favored. Surprisingly we had a flood of money on the Tigers as the favorites so we were right where we wanted to be. We found out later in the afternoon a very well respected Midwest handicapper released the Tigers as his game of the month. Yes, we did some damage on Saturday but we couldn?t have imagined what was in store for us on Sunday!

Sunday was like a photo negative of Saturday. Big name favorites and pitchers with serious pedigrees and hardware ran the table! Roger Clemens, Dontrelle Willis, Jon Garland, Danny Haren, Bartolo Colon, and Chris Carpenter all won on the same day! Just by looking at the scores I knew it would be grizzly, but I had a surprise in store for me. I knew it would be bad, but not nearly as bad as it turned out to be. The players who used our ?Round Robin? feature and parlayed these teams absolutely beat out brains in to the tune of six figures, erasing the weeks profits and the kind Saturday. As many ?BM?s? are saying this time of year?..I can?t wait for football.

Until next week, may all your wagers be winners

Jimmy Mason
