A look back at this past weekend from a bettor's point-of-view

The Christmas weekend saw a number of big moves that depending on the clientele of
each shop should have produced mixed results. The pros had a great weekend as they
moved a number of big games and won, however our client base the recreational
players chopped it up. Let's take a look at some of the monster moves in the NFL
this past weekend.
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens was a big one in the early session. The
'play' was to the Baltimore side +6, yet we never took a bet at that number as our
linesman had the inside info too. After moving out of respect for the crew that
played the Ravens we were flooded with Steelers money! Most places were closing at
Pitt -4 ? and we were hanging tough with our opening number -5 ?. Final score Pitt
20-7 and we took a medium loss to the game.
The afternoon games saw three major line moves with the most drastic coming early on
in the week when it was announced that Michael Vick would not be playing. No Michael
Vick meant an unbelievable 9 POINT MOVE!!! The Saints were a runaway train winning
26-13 but our players seemed to believe that the Falcons would make good without
Vick and we really had no decision on this game.
Next up was the highly anticipated Patriots and Jets game. This was a big move and
rightly so in my opinion as the play was on the home team dog New York +3 and the
Patriots were coming off a 'short week' having played on Monday night. While the
wise guys were in on the J-E-T-S Jets out players were smothering us with Patriot
money under the 'Can't lose twice in a row' philosophy and they were right as the
final score was 23-7!
Washington and Dallas was the last monster move as Dallas opened -2 and the sharps
again pounded the opposite side as the Redskins closed a -3 point favorite. The
common thinking was that that both teams stink so why not take the home team, even
though the sharps clearly saw value in Washington. In the end we simply followed our
action and the 13-10 Dallas victor was nice for the book.
Until next week...
