A look back at this past weekend from a bettor?s point-of-view

This week saw huge revenge games, red?hot service releases, and some monster line moves. Overall we ?Chopped it up? and came out a winner, which is just fine with us -- as word has it many of the other sportsbooks really took a beating out there.
Our first big game Saturday was Oklahoma, which opened at -18 ?. Our players seemed to be playing the revenge angle, remembering that Kansas St. dominated the Sooners last year by a score of 35-7 and costing them the national championship. Our players laid ?the wood? all week long, eventually taking that line all the way up to 21 by game time. Final score was 31-21, and the final outcome was that house raked in most of the chips.
The next big game was an obvious ?Release?. A ?Release? as we call them is a pick given by a handicapper who sells his picks. A ?Release? will jump off the board at us ? the bookmaker - as we will suddenly notice an abnormally high amount of tickets on a relatively obscure team. In this case the team was Bowling Green, as B.G. opened at -24 ? points, and rocketed all the way to -30 points. Now that?s a 5 ? point move!! They covered easily, winning 51-13. And we ended up getting egg all over our face in dropping that game, but we were still in good shape overall.
In the NFL we had two hot potato games this week. The first game was the Philly vs. Carolina, a rematch of last year?s NFC Championship game. The Eagles opened -7 ?, and closed at -10. What you need to understand is that NCAA games move 2 ? points frequently, but a 2 ? point move in the NFL is almost unheard of. We also had the double whammy of the wise guys getting in early, and the public piling on all week. We couldn?t buy a bet on the Panthers. And if you watched the game, you know -- the house never had a chance!!!
The second big decision in the NFL was the hangover special of the week. The Tennessee Titans, fresh off a big Monday Night Football win at Green Bay had everyone convinced they were back on track. They proceeded to turn around and lose outright to the young Texans. Many times the best way to gauge a team is by looking for motivated teams, or teams ripe for a letdown. The Titans were the latter.
Well, that?s it for this past weekend. Till next week?.
