Hypocrites!!!!

On Dec. 5, Newsweek magazine touted an interview with then-incoming House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Rep. Silvestre Reyes as an "exclusive." And for good reason.
"In a surprise twist in the debate over Iraq," the story began, Mr. Reyes "said he wants to see an increase of 20,000 to 30,000 U.S. troops as part of a 'stepped up effort to dismantle the militias.' "
"We have to consider the need for additional troops to be in Iraq, to take out the militias and stabilize Iraq," the Texas Democrat said to the surprise of many, "I would say 20,000 to 30,000."
Then came President Bush's expected announcement last week, virtually matching Mr. Reyes' recommendation and argument word-for-word -- albeit the president proposed only 21,500 troops.
Wouldn't you know, hours after Mr. Bush announced his proposal, Mr. Reyes told the El Paso Times that such a troop buildup was unthinkable.
"We don't have the capability to escalate even to this minimum level," he said.

Sen. John Kerry, Bush's Democratic opponent in last year's presidential election, told NBC's "Today" show that the borders of Iraq "are porous" and said "we don't have enough troops" there.
:nono: :nono: :nono:

Sen. Joseph Biden Jr., appearing on ABC's "Good Morning America," disputed Bush's notion that sufficient troops are in place.

"I'm going to send him the phone numbers of the very generals and flag officers that I met on Memorial Day when I was in Iraq," the Delaware Democrat said. "There's not enough force on the ground now to mount a real counterinsurgency."

Biden argued, "The course that we are on now is not a course of success. He (Bush) has to get more folks involved. He has to stand up that army more quickly."

That Reyes guy is a moron. He's also the one who didn't know the difference between Shiites and Sunni.

As for Biden, do you know what his stance is now? He's not typically a hypocrite - He may still be in favor of a troop increase. Some Dems support the idea of more troops.

And to be fair, Freeze - you too are a hypocrite. You were in favor of moving to Canada before you were against it. I'm still waiting for you to fulfill your promise made many months ago.

Biden is COMPLETELY against it now that Bush is for it

I will be moving to Canada whenever their government confiscates less of my family's money than ours does.

As far as you know, I might be there now.

They were voted in to stop the occupation that is exactly what they ought to do. Anyone voting for the escalation should be thrown out. Iraq is not nor was it ever a threat to the United States. No more American soldiers should shed his blood for Iraq's freedom.

Biden's comment was in 2005. It is possible for a person to have a changed view in that time. Afterall, things do seem less hopeful than they did then. I'd give Biden the benefit of the doubt on that.

Stevie - I wouldn't expect any kinds of drawing down of troops until the next President takes office. I'm not even sure what the congress can do - it seems like Dubya still holds the cards regarding our military in Iraq. Stupid congress gave him lots of authority a few years ago. Those that didn't want to, ended up dead (Wellstone).

My view is that as longa as troops are there, we need to finance them. As for 20,000 additional ....well, it might help Baghdad a little. It probably won't matter in the long run, though. It reminds me of myself chasing losses at the blackjack table.

Tough month

The chairman's "double-talk" did not go unnoticed. Among others, Rep. Joe Wilson, South Carolina Republican and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, says such blatant "hypocrisy" undermines both national security and the war on terrorism.
Unfortunately for the new House intelligence chief, this is his second (some would argue his third) major blunder in the space of one month. When asked by Congressional Quarterly reporter Jeff Stein whether al Qaeda was a Sunni or Shi'ite organization, he answered: "Predominantly, probably Shi'ite."
As Mr. Stein wrote later: "He couldn't have been more wrong. Al Qaeda is profoundly Sunni. If a Shi'ite showed up at an al Qaeda clubhouse, they'd slice his head off and use it for a soccer ball."

in conclusion folks--remember this is their appointed intelligence chief--the best they think they have--and I may even have to side with them on that :)

As far as flip flopping and mind changing, I'd say anyone who opposes Bush in matters of Iraq, whether it was a changed opinion or not, is a relatively smart person.

Lord knows Bush has changed his mind on many things when it comes to that country, and even he now allows for the mistakes and worries incumbent on us being there. Including making the country LESS safe than before we entered the country.

I think that one cat is from Texas. There's your answer for him. As for Biden. Lets try to get closer to what he meant. He said it enough. Biden he has to stand up that army quicker. And of course he meant Iraqi's. He never revers to our army as that army. He has said many time train and use Kurds more then we are. He did say early on we needed more men to start with. Of course that's when Bush and his gang were ling to everyone in the world. Just so they could go have there invasion. As times changed and we our sitting in the middle of a civil war. So to the reasons to get some action out of that ass hole prime minister of Iraq. That lies but Bush believes. Everyone else knows he's puling Bush's chain. He either as Biden said get on the ball. Or we start pulling some folks out not adding. Bush has a new plan. Bull Shit same plan just more men to get shot at. Nothing new. Iraq has to finish this mess now. They put themselfs in ths deep. No bullet will end it. To late for that. To late for 200000 men. It's been screwed to fail from start. But little Hitler would not and still does not listen.

i was and am against this war but we started this and its now out of contol..i have no idea how they are going to finish this, nor do they.its very, very sad situation right now.they better get some real smart people on all sides and try to figure this out, more troops is not the answer.more smart people involved is..i believe they need to find a way to make 3 new countries out of iraq, but this will be impossible also, chit who gets the oil terrirories (probably the ones bush likes most)..there is no clear answer to this,HOW THE FUK CAN YOU START A WAR WITH NO GOAL ,OR POINT TO IT.FKN CRAZY.on a brighter note for my family,my wifes brother will be done with his 5 year stint in the army in 4 months, and is already back in the usa from iraq.her parents can finally sleep at night.
