I'm headed to San Francisco this week for a work trip and will have a lot of free social time as well.
Bringing the wife with me as well. On our list so far is:
Golden Gate Bridge
Alcatraz
ride a trolley

and that appears to be all SF is known for. I'll be downtown at Moscone West - any of you folks have recommendations on any cool bars for social drinking (not a frigging rave party) or other must do things in the city?

Folsom Street Festival is already over, so The Boys, no need to recommend it.

If you are a beer drinker check out one of the breweries, many really good ones in the area. Larger ones like Anchor Steam or Lagunitas or you can try small operations like Speakeasy.

I'm sure ImFekhr can provide much more detail about various options about his city and will likely see this.

City Lights bookstore ( of Kerouac, Ginsburg and Ferlinghetti fame) is in North Beach where you you will also find many fine Italian restaurants. Chinatown and the Embarcadero are nearby if your interested.
Nob hill is home to some great mansions if you are into architecture and Haight ashbury is nothing like it was in the 60s, however you might find something interesting if you want to head that way while wandering the city.
A walk or a drive across the Golden Gate bridge is cool and some time in the artist colony of Sausalito on the other side of the bridge might be of interest.
Into military history? Check out the Presidio, certainly worth a visit if you are.

thanks folks.

yes, we will be down on the Pier, I think Pier 27? For a business party on Tuesday night. Should be a good time.
The Marine Memorial is also on the list of places to go too.

Thanks for all the great ideas to go visit. much appreciated.

Definitely a great brew there, I'm big on their Day Time Ale recently. Hard to find a beer that isn't too heavy that has as much taste as that one.

Used to live there for three years, lots and lots to do. Check out Sausalito, ChinaTown, head down to Half-moon bay and see the Mavericks.

But, first priority........hit up a World Series game :)

Marine:

Was there last summer - had a lot of fun. Lot of stuff to do.

We did a package excursion - one day it was a bike ride across the Golden Gate Bridge, starting from the Warf area and ending up in Sausalito. You then have the option to head back the way you came (about 11 miles I think) or going the longer way and taking a ferry back (about 24 miles). We did the longer ride and it was awesome. The 2nd part of the package was a day trip to Alcatraz. This might be your only option to get Alcatraz tickets as the standalone tickets sell out a month or so in advance (we had to buy the package and very happy we did).

Chinatown is a must see and if you can get to a game at Pac Bell for the World Series..... we lucked out this summer - we went to a Wednesday afternoon game and it ended up being Tim Linececum's no hitter!
