There were 4 airplanes on the ground, if that Air Canada plane landed, the death toll would have been massive.

The 2nd worst Aviation Disaster of all time (9/11 is number 1) was the Tenerife Airport Disaster (March 27, 1977). It resulted in 583 deaths, this incident at the San Francisco International Airport could have even been worse then that.
