OK, I'm trying not to bet with my heart on this one, but I actually do think there's some value with the Cubs today.
Kerry Wood looked much improved against these same Marlins on the 3rd, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits in 6 innnings. I look for a similar outing from him today. He is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA lifetime against the Marlins (2 starts). As always, his control is the only thing that can hold him back. He's been studying his past mechanics more (and I think it showed during his last start) so the long rest should only help him out more.
You've also got to believe that the Cubs are almost treating this like the start of a new season, you'd hope for some more energy under Kimm than under Baylor. Hopefully, they want to at least get back to respectability by the end of the year and aren't going to just phone it in.
The Marlins, on the other hand, have to be pretty demoralized over the latest trade. The Florida GM can deny it all he wants, but I think this trade signifies the end of the Marlins wild-card attempt this year (the trade doesn't look bad for the future though).
Burnett's looked sub-par the last couple of outings as well, and McGriff and Alou are beginning to resemble . . .McGriff and Alou.
Thinking of playing a bit on the Cubs -145, and maybe even Cubs -1.5 (+135).
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
