from TSN--
The NHL's hockey operations department is less than pleased with the Florida Panthers' recent behavior. The panthers lead the NHL in penalty minutes, by a margin of more than four minutes per game, and are the runaway leaders in terms of fighting majors. Going into Wednesday's games, the panthers had 105 fighting majors. That's 31 more than the no. 2 ranked Boston Bruins, 41 more than no. 3 Calgary and 86, yes 86, more than the fight-challenged Detroit Red Wings.

In fact, NHL vice president Colin Campbell has spoken to Panthers' GM Chuck Fletcher about the team's fractious ways and if they should continue, stiff fines have been threatened. On Wednesday, the league issued a memo to every NHL team regarding "inappropriate use of players," which is to suggest the league will frown on anyone using tough guys and enforcers to settle the score in meaningless games or games with a lopsided score, such as the recent brouhaha between the Panthers and Ottawa Senators

Any idea of the O/U record for those referees (specifically for the san jose game). I know someone posts them from time to time, and couldn't remember who it was.

If not,where can I find that info:confused:

Thank for all of your help, best of luck tonight:cool:

from toronto sun: barrasso might start

"Barrasso's chance might come tonight against the Washington Capitals, which is an opportunity to rest Corey Schwab for a divisional game against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday and another first-place showdown with the Philadelphia Flyers 48 hours later. Quinn called a Barrasso start "a possibility," while Barrasso said "I'm sure I'll get one eventually."

Rob Blake expects to play against the Kings and endure the wrath of booing Kings fans, as he has with each visit to the Staples Center since he was traded last year.

"I guess I just want to hear it," Blake said, laughing.

Blake left the Avalanche's game Tuesday against Washington early in the third period after a knee-on-knee hit.

"We knew right after the game that it was very minor," coach Bob Hartley said. "We wanted Robbie to take a good night, and (Wednesday) morning he showed up and he was examined by the medical staff and he felt fine. So he's going to be in the lineup."

Hartley said defenseman Adam Foote, who sliced a finger at St. Louis 10 days ago, also will play tonight. Foote logged about 28 minutes of ice time against the Capitals and was given Wednesday off.

Center Stephane Yelle, who suffered a bruised shoulder last week in Atlanta, will sit out his fourth game tonight, but he practiced and Hartley believes he will be ready for a home game against Detroit on Saturday.

The Avalanche has scored 10 goals in the past five games and has been shut out twice in that span . . . Colorado has gone 8-1-1 in its past 10 road games . . . The Avalanche has won two of three games against the Kings this season . . . The Kings have won four in a row to close within two points of first-place San Jose in the Pacific Division...The Kings, at 20.4 percent, have the NHL's second-best power play. The Avs are fifth at 18.4 percent. The Avs and Kings are 1-2 in the league in penalty killing, at 88.3 and 88.2 percent, respectively.

from slam!

San Jose is unbeaten in five against the Flames (2-0-3) including two wins and a tie this season. After three consecutive sawoffs, the Sharks beat the Flames 3-1 Dec. 6 at the 'Dome and blanked them 2-0 Feb. 6 at the Shark Tank.

BETWEEN THE POSTS

A sure sign the Sharks are serious about staying ahead of their divisional pursuers, they're starting No. 1 'keeper Evgeni Nabokov on back-to-back nights. Nabokov is among the league leaders in wins with 30 and sports a 2.31 goals-against average. Roman Turek (26-24-10, 2.51) gets the call again for Calgary.

INJURIES

San Jose -- Left wing Stephane Matteau (stinger) did not make the trip while right wing Todd Harvey (shoulder) is expected to sit out one more game before returning to action. Defenceman Marcus Ragnarsson missed the final two periods of Wednesday night's game against the Oilers after getting whacked in the ear by Ryan Smyth's stick but he's expected to play.

Calgary -- Blueliner Bob Boughner (charleyhorse) and right wing Chris Clark (ribs) will be back in the lineup. Centre Clarke Wilm (ankle), left wing Dave Lowry (shoulder) and centre Scott Nichol (knee) are out.

Newly acquired winger Blake Sloan, wearing No. 24, will make his Flames debut
