Giants +4.5 (5*)
Giants (+170) (3*)
Niners a playoff team and one of the better teams in the NFC, but weren't a 'strong' 12-4 last season. A rather weak schedule had a few things do with it. Defense is young and improving, offense is very good....but...they didn't exactly look like world-beaters on the road last season. Sure, they waxed a defenseless Indy team and destroyed a Saints team that had already quit on the season, otherwise they played average to mediocre teams closely. Loss at Dallas, OT win at Atlanta, 2pt win at NYJ, 3pt win at Carolina...not particularly impressive IMO. Giants might be a .500 team this season if everything goes right...this is their home-opener though and getting a decent amount of points looks inviting. I hate to read too much into the 'public' plays, but San Fran is about as 'public' play as you can get. NY still has a dominant defensive line, the back seven is still decent..I don't see the Niners offense going wild on them. Two biggest questions are the O-line and if tonight is a game where Collins is going to be in one of his good or bad zones. It's usally one or the other and nowhere in-between. I'll hope for the former. Shockey's presence is a massive upgrade for the Giants offense. Tight game either way...points and contrarianism look like the way to go.
Good luck!
