Lots of love for the VT home Hokies to tonight.
FSU (-14) over VT
Blacksburg on Thursday is a good point. But has it been really the same in the past few years? I remember the days of an energetic VT crowd motivating. But was that really VT being a tough place to play or was it vt was a tough team to play. They play better at home. Sure. They have played well against GT, Austin Pea, Bowling Green and had a good second half against Duke. What many seem to forget is VT was still in control of its ACC life and was dominated by Miami. Yes VT won the yards game and TOP but miami clearly was the better team. They should have been up for that game yet looked out matched in every phase of that game. Logan Thomas is a good QB but the line is bad, WR are young and play calling is bad. FSU is in the top ten in total defense and should have VT out gunned all night. Did I mention VT kicker is trash. After being reinstated to the team he has look unconfident and off. FSU took NC st lightly and lost. Since they have won game by an average of 33 points per game. They have had extra time to prepare for this game and will take it seriously. Vt on defense is rebuilding and the secondary is flat out not in position on many plays. FSU has a top ten offense. They have similar if not faster RB speed compared to Miami. Miami gashed VT all night. I have watched a lot of VT football and if they keep it close it will be some odd plays or a combination of VT over performing and FSU sleeping. Considering FSU lost the last 2 meetings against VT (including ACC Championship) I don't see FSU over looking them. Logan has 12 picks on the year. His judgement and accuracy has been off since he feels the need to make big plays. Thomas leads the team in rushing as well. Thomas, on the other hand, runs the ball often. He's Virginia Tech's leading rusher this season, racking up 514 yards on 98 designed runs. FSU can make it very tough for him and in turn eliminate the majority of VT offense. Lets look at Logan is last in the ACC in completion percentage, converting just 38 third downs on passing plays, He has completed just 41 percent of his passes in the red zone and thrown two interceptions. Logan is a big boy with talent but I like the whole FSU team with talent. Seminoles rank third nationally with an average of nearly 45 points per game. Defensively they allow just 227 yards per game, best in the country, and rank in the top four in rushing defense, passing defense and scoring defense (12 ppg).
One stat I hate is FSU are 0-2 following a layoff in Fisher's first two seasons. Still I like VT has outscored 68-29 the last two weeks in losses at Clemson and Miami. I think FSU is better then those teams. Considering they beat them both by double digits.
If you like VT enjoy this road problem for FSU. In the three FSU road games this year, averaging 26.7
IMO FSU has a lot too prove and VT doesn't have enough to stop the point from being made. In years past VT has run well, played UNREAL defense and leaned on special teams. Those areas are not good and VT is not built to adapt and have crumbled in big games. It has also caused chaos with team practice, organization and play calling. As they develope players it may be restored but not this year and I don't think it happens tonight.
Cheers
