2-2 in the opening round, but lost the one I needed most. Plenty of time for analysis and discussion for round 2 at the Gund. Initially I think that Akron Matches up fairly well with WMU, though the Broncs do possess a size advantage in the backcourt, but the Broncs have not been defending as well as some of the teams that seem to give the Zips the most problems. Regardless, it has been very rewarding year for the Akron program. Any wins for the Zips at this point are icing on the cake. For my money, you still have to beat Miami and Kent to take the cheese, with the edge to Miami.

Kent State -2' Best Bet

I perceive OU in much the same way I see the Zips. They are young, talented and seemingly getting better all the time. However, it would be a very tall task for the 'Cats to hang with the Flashes. Kent is looking once again like a team that can contend in this tournament. The Flashes are getting nice numbers from Edwin and Haynes, and have a physical presence that the Bobcats just can't match. In my estimation to expect OU and their super freshmen to win at first asking at the Gund against a team that has been there done that is a bit much to ask.

It really pains me to play the Broncs, but after reviewing the numbers I must do so. I just don't see how the Zips can slow down Reed and not get pounded on the glass. I view this game in much the same sense that I do the OU game. Akron has far exceeded expectations this year and just getting to the Gund is a huge step for a program that has struggled for soooo long. I have no doubt that Dambrot will have the Zips well prepared for this one, but think that they come up short. ( I hope I'm wrong) It will be a building block for a team that should be the classof the MAC next season.

Now, an unsolicited rant !

Charlie Coles MAC coach of the year ?? Please, I love Charlie but Keith did not have Chet the Jet and Danny Horrace to work with. Dambrot was far more deserving, and got much more from much less than Charlie did.

I think Kent will turn it on against Ohio, but I think the winner of Buff and Toledo could be a nice sleeper. By the way, I agree with you that Keith should be COY, I thought they would flounder when the kid from Central Hower went down but he kept them going.

coles winning coach of the year is an absolute joke. great coach, but if anything, miami underachieved with all their veteran talent. how it wasnt a two-man race between dambrot or o'shea is beyond me.
