YTD: 14-7
PICK: Siena -11.5
If Siena hadn't lost to Loyola MD in OT earlier this week, I wouldn't touch this game, with Siena looking ahead to Marist next Monday. And the fact that this game is the second of two games between these two in 8 days with Siena winning the first match-up on the road on 1/3 by 78-60.
But Siena needs to get back on track and prove to their coach they can play some D, and no better team to do that against than Canisius.
Canisius has been a mess since their best offensive option, senior guard Chuck Harris went down with a knee injury on 12/29. Since then, the Griffs are 1-2 and averaging just 58.3 ppg. In the 4 games before Harris went out, Canisius was averaging 78.3 ppg. Harris will not be back for this game.
In their last game at home vs a young Manhattan team, Canisius hit just 15 of 47 from the field including 0-13 from the arc. Canisius committed 24 turnovers, which increases their season average to 18.8 per game. Freshman pg Frank Turner seems to have a A-Rod/Knoblach sort of issue, he can't buy a basket and has committed 28 to's in his L5 games. In the last game Turner was benched for 11 minutes in favor of a walk-on freshman.
Canisius only has 2 players over 6'6" and they couldn't stop Haddix in the first game and that won't change tonite. Add in Canisius' recent poor shooting and ball handling with Siena's desire to get back on the winning track in advance of their show-down with Marist, and I think the Saints will get a dd win.
good luck
