Thursday PICKS: Ucla / Duke / Rice

My reasons for picking my plays:
UCLA -1.5.......This game is being played at UCLA, is there anything else needed to be said here??? I told myself before the spread came out that if UCLA was giving 2 or less points, I'd pick them.
Duke -12.......They play BC, and BC isn't a strong team at home, they've lost to Pitt at home, they got blown out by 27 pts by Georgetown at home, and then lost to St Johns at home. This BC team just isn't the same team they had last year, although Troy Bell will rise up for this game, but it takes a team effort to stay close with Duke I feel. The way I see it, if Duke plays to their potential or their normal game, they blow out BC. The one thing I worry about is Duke being complacent or not playing up to the talent they possess, also the backdoor cover is a killer, however, if you worry about every little thing like that, you'd have an excuse not to pick any games...heh heh. However, I think after losing to FSU on the road, I don't think Duke will take anyone for granted(maybe wait till they go on another long win streak, then they might, but not yet), and I'm sure Shashefski or whatever his name is is telling his Duke players not to take this one for granted. Duke is mentally strong, they won't get too flustered on the road and weather the storm early and as the game goes along, the overwhelming talent of Duke will take over the game.
Rice +6.5.......Looks like the point spread has dropped all the way down to 4 at some places after I picked this play as soon as it came out, I guess a lot of others must have played the same way.......not sure if that's a good thing or not. Anyways, If Hawaii wins on the road, it's usually a close game and down to the wire in which they pull it out. Against Utep, Boise st, and San jose st on the road this season, all I might add were very lame teams, the games went down to the wire. I see the same for this game, Hawaii should play more inspired after they lost to the pathetic san jose st team in their last game, however, it will be the same ole trend like always, Hawaii will play down to their competition and Rice will play harder at home and this game will go down to the wire, and the point spread will be huge for Rice in a close game. Rice has a horrible record, but if you noticed their home record, it is 6-2 at home!! Rice is pretty good at home, better than San Jose st, the team Hawaii just loss too. Another plus for Rice is that they are coming home after 2 losses on the road and will be even more inspired and up for this game. I wouldn't be surprise if Rice wins this game outright. To me, this game is pretty even, I wouldn't even pick Hawaii if they were the dogs and getting points!!! That's how much I don't have confidence in Hawaii on the road!!!
