Old cliche', long time reader, first time poster...love this board for info and guidance in the black art of playing this game.
Even though I haven't been posting my picks, I've taken an ass-whipping this week. Maybe, if you fade my picks, you can make some money.
For background, I'm a small player, recreational at best, who does this whenever I have money to burn. I've made quite a bit of money only to give it back. It's just something I do to make the gametime beer a little sweeter tasting or more bitter...
Starting fresh, 0-0, +0
Never more than 5* with 2-3* an average play...4-5* are rare...
Butler -1, 3* - This seems like a pick 'em to me. I saw this on the early lines at Butler -4. When the lines actually came out, I saw it at -1 or -2 depending on the book. I'm banking that Vegas had it right in the first place. Add that to me thinking that Butler should win this game by 5-10 points on paper, and it's my biggest play for the night.
MSU -17.5, 2* - Having moved to NJ from Arkansas, I've got past exposure to the Sun Belt, of which UALR is a member. There are occasional exceptions, but for the most part, the Sun Belt is not good...especially when compared to a high caliber SEC team. MSU is coming off a week long break after a 13 point loss to Syracuse. At home, I think the Dawgs make this one ugly with a half-time spread of about 15-20 points. I hate this large a spread. That is the only reason this one isn't a 3* play.
Delaware +13, 1* - I think this line is over-inflated. I think it could get this ugly, but I'll put a few $ on it not getting that way. I'm mostly thinking that the line is this big because of some of the early season hype about St. Mary's being much improved this year. I really don't have any stats to back this one up which is why it's my smallest play.
