so i was sittin at lunch checkin the scores on my phone and just thought i'd share a little bit about my philosophy on betting... have never really put it down on paper or put it together neatly... but i have a friend i'm bringin along bettin the ol' bases and i always try to give him little tidbits, situations to avoid, situations to pounce on and such. but today i think is a great example of betting underdogs in this wonderful sport.
now, i know a lot of you might say "but tig, you play a LOT of heavy chalk" yeah, but i know when to avoid the heavy chalk, too. I have yet to play roy oswalt yet this year and as you have seen this week, i like to bet both sides (dog ML and fav RL) to chop that chalk way down.
today is a great example of when 50% on underdogs = mf'n payday.
the pirates are losin right now, 5-0, top 3rd. big deal, the reason i played them is b/c the chalk was too heavy on the marlins and the pirates have pulled out the last two, both close games.
i have 4 other dogs in play today, playing all of them to win $1k except the a's--who really aren't dogs but by definition (which side's getting the run and a half on the RL) they are--who i've got $3k on.
provided they a's hold on to win, they're up 3-0 right now in the 4th and blanton's lookin pretty good, and the pirates lose, i'm up 25. that more than covers my other 3 dogs were they all to lose. if i go 1-2 in those games, the most i lose 492; still up 2k.
when i lay heavy chalk, it's because i am a firm believer in situational handicapping and not chasing a win or expecting a loss, or crap like that. there is a good reason that FOX and ESPN show Career vs. Pitcher stats for batters, IT MEANS SOMETHING. this has turned into kind of a rant, but whatever.
