Tiger, Phil Showdown at the US Open in Pebble Beach

Frank Doyle looks at some interesting bets for this weekend?s US Open at Pebble Beach.
There?s a funny feeling of a final showdown, of OK Corral about the US Open this year. It?s at Pebble Beach, a course at which Tiger Woods set a US Open record and a major tournament winning margin record when he won in 2000, the first leg of the Tiger Slam.
But that was then and this is now, and Tiger is not who he was. Tiger?s life has turned upside down and it?s beginning to reflect in his golf game. For the first time since what seems like forever, Tiger is not the golf betting favorite at Pebble Beach ? he?s joint favorite with Phil Mickelson, his chief rival and a man who?s come second in the US Open five times in eleven years without ever winning the tournament.
Does that make Phil a good or a bad bet? Either he?s on the cusp of closing the deal or else he?s born under a bad sign when it comes to this particular tournament.
There?s value lower in the field, with big prices on overseas contenders like Lee Westwood, Padraig Harrington, Ernie Els and the up and coming Rory McIlroy. It?s quite an international field, so a bet on a non-US winner could be a canny one. Camilo Villegas could also be worth an bet as the top Rest of the World player, or worth a look in group betting, where he?s in the same group as Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, Luke Donald and Steve Strickler.
The US Open being a notoriously tough challenge we have bets on what the final score will be, from the favorite of 274 and under the nightmare of 287 and over. There?s also an over/under on the lowest round, which is set at 66.5.
The 2010 US Open could an epoch-making or epoch-breaking event in the history of professional golf, as Tiger once more attempts to govern the most quixotic of games by sheer force of will alone. We?ll have updated US Open odds on every day the tournament at Pebble Beach every day over the weekend right here at Sports Interaction.
