Matchup: Derek Holland vs. Doug Fister

The Rangers try to win a four-game series from Detroit when left-hander Derek Holland takes the mound against the always tough right-hander Doug Fister.

Holland (3-2, 2.93): Holland tries to bounce back after a frustrating outing in Oakland in which the Rangers gave him an early 3-0 lead and couldn't hold it ... The Rangers' left-hander failed to go at least seven innings for only the second time in eight starts ... He couldn't get out of the sixth inning, leaving the game with the tied at 3-3 ... Holland has allowed two runs or fewer in five of his eight starts, tied for third behind Boston's Clay Buchholz's and the New York Mets' Matt Harvey ... Holland's ERA is the fourth lowest among American League left-handers .... He has six quality starts, tied with Yu Darvish for ninth in the AL ... Holland will finally pitch again at Rangers Ballpark after making five of his last six starts on the road ... He is 1-1 with 1 .57 ERA in three home starts ... He is 0-0 with a 1.54 ERA for two career starts against the Tigers, both at home.

Fister (5-1, 3.06): Fister is one of the most consistent pitchers in the AL ... He has allowed three runs or less in all but one of his eight starts ... He won his last start against the Houston, allowing two runs in seven innings in a 7-2 victory against the Astros ... Fister bounced back from his lone rough start of the season when he went only three innings, allowing four runs in a 5-4 loss to Washington ... Fister gives up right around a hit an inning and has walked eight and has allowed one home run in 50 innings ... Fister reached double digits in ground balls outs in his first six starts ... He is 1-1 with a 3.13 ERA for four road starts ... Fister bears down with runners in scoring position and two outs, allowing two hits in 21 at-bats ... Fister is 2-4 with a 5.61 ERA for his career against the Rangers, allowing seven home runs in 43 1/3 innings ... He is 0-2 with a 13.00 ERA at Rangers Ballpark ... He has a .404 opponents batting average for five home runs and 13 earned runs allowed in nine innings in Arlington.

Hitters: Nelson Cruz (7-for-16, 1 HR, 3 RBIs) has been struggling off late with three double plays in the last two games but he could turn things around against Fister. David Murphy (8-for-18, 4 HRs, 8 RBIs) has had even more success against the Tigers' right-hander. Torii Hunter (10-for-34, 2 HRs, 5 RBIs) has had the most success against Holland.

Jurickson Profar to play regularly for Texas Rangers in Ian Kinsler?s absence

He won?t sit around this time.

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said Sunday that he will use just-recalled INF Jurickson Profar, the club?s top prospect, regularly while 2B Ian Kinsler is on the DL. If so, it will mark a big change from 2012 when Profar spent most of his late-season callup watching from the bench. Profar, who arrived in Arlington Sunday afternoon, will make his 2013 debut against Oakland on Monday. Leury Garcia was in the lineup at second base on Sunday.

After Profar, 20, was called up last September, he started just five games as the Rangers? started to fade. Washington resisted the efforts of the front office, which suggested Profar play more. This time, he will.

?He will play, but I?m not going to stop playing Garcia,? said Washington, who is starting for just seventh time in the club?s first 44 games Sunday. ?I can spell Elvis [Andrus] a little with these two kids.?

Profar was hitting .278 (40-144) with 27 runs, four home runs, 19 RBIs, and 21 walks in 37 games for the Express. In his last game at Triple-A last night vs. Colorado Springs, he went 3-for-4 with his first career multi-homer game, scoring 3 runs with 3 RBI. Profar has hit safely in 8 straight for Round Rock at .424 (14-33) with six runs, two doubles, three homers, and eight RBIs in that span.

Kinsler tried to take some swings on Sunday, but told Rangers officials he still had significant discomfort in the area of his right intercostal (side) muscle. He was hit by a throw while trying to steal second base in Houston last week, then flinched while twisting away from Justin Verlander curve ball on Thurday and tweaked the muscle.

Kinsler was not available for comment on Sunday. It is the seventh time in his career he has gone to the DL, but the first since 2010.

?We don?t want it to get worse,? Washington said. ?That area there can fool you. You think it?s feeling good and sharp movement and there it is again.?

The Tigers are 13-7 at home and 10-11 outside of Comerica Park. And, four of those 10 wins came against the league-worst Astros.

Subtract the four wins in Houston and the Tigers are now 1-8 in their last nine road games. Of course, you can't simply dismiss the Astros. They might be the underbelly of the American League, but Detroit shouldn't apologize for beating beatable teams, right?

-- The Tigers have hit .215 and totaled 13 runs in losing three of four. They've dropped seven of 11 since they won nine of 10. They started the season 19-11.

-- The Rangers have won 11 of 15 and have scored a combined 17 runs and 23 hits in both wins during this four-game series.

-- Prince Fielder was 6-for-35 before his single in the third Saturday. He's now 3-for-24 with one RBI in his last seven games. His seven-game stretch without an RBI matched his longest such streak of last year.

-- Miguel Cabrera is 5-for-12 with two doubles in the first three of this four-game series. He went 1-for-4 on Saturday, giving him a major league-leading 63 hits. Since August 2011, he has 348 hits in 255 games -- 31 more hits than anyone in baseball.
