Not much in the way of details yet...he was 58.

Collapsed..so you would guess a heart attack.

Best known as host of Meet the Press.

Very sad. I liked Tim, thought he did a good job.

Wish his family the best.

PLEASE KEEP YOUR PARTISAN VIEWS OUT OF THE THREAD.

Sportscaster Charlie Jones, 77, dies of heart attack

Charlie Jones, the deep-voiced sportscaster whose career as a play-by-play announcer spanned 38 years for ABC and NBC, has died. He was 77.

Jones died of a heart attack Thursday at his home in the La Jolla district of San Diego, his longtime agent, Martin Mandel, told The Associated Press.

?Charlie is one of the legends of sports broadcasting starting with covering the first Super Bowl,? Mandel said. ?He had a wonderful kettledrum voice. He was known for that and his versatility.?

NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol called Jones ?one of the great pioneers of NBC Sports. His work in particular on the NFL, golf and the Olympics left a lasting legacy.?

charlie was one of the old original "afl" announcers..i always associated his voice with the birth of the afl...which basically helped propel the nfl into the deity-like status it now enjoys....

i`m surprised that the nfl didn`t take advantage of his talent...he was very very good...

and russert, although a member of patrick moynihan`s staff back in his political days, was maybe the most objective voice on nbc news....

even though he was a democrat, russert was a tough interview for both sides...

i now regret calling him "mr potato head"(obviously in jest,...he did look like the character)...

friday the 13th.....whew....they will be missed..
