hey cooz, thanks for the response. yeah, i'm interested in the field. i applied and got accepted to law school for this coming fall, but decided to take off a year and work because i'm not ready to submit myself to that kind of studying just yet. the reason i ask about how you found your job is that it sounds interesting, and i'd much rather work in-house than at a firm. usually people start off at a firm first is what i hear, and i was wondering what your path was like. also, recently even students at top law schools have been having a tough time finding any kind of work, and i'm just trying to evaluate my career prospects. do you like what you're doing? do you mind the long hours? can you go into any specifics about your job? how is the pay compared to firm work? thanks a lot! :)

GREAT CHOICE ON YOUR PART....DONT GO TO LAW SCHOOL UNLESS YOU ARE READY FOR REALLY REALLLY REALLY LOTS OF READING...STUDYING...ETC...PARTYING AND EVERYTHING ELSE IN YOURE LIFE BECOMES SECONDARY... (I LUV TO PARTY AND "WAS" IN A SERIOUS REALTIONSHIP FOR 3 YEARS) ...NOW IN REGARDS TO MY PATH....DURING LAWSCHOOL I BECAME VERY INTERESTED IN LITIGATION...MAYBE IT WAS THE COMPETITION ....SINCE I PLAYED SPORTS THROUGHOUT MY LIFE...SEMIPRO HOCKEY AT ONE POINT...I BEGAN COMPETING IN "MOCK TRIALS" AND TAKING EXTENSIVE COURSES IN LITIGATION...GRADUATED IN THE TOP 20% OF MY CLASS...AND PAST THE BAR FIRST SHOT...THE BAR EXAM WAS THE MOST CHALLENGING ASPECT OF BECOMING A LAWYER IN MY OPINION... 3 MONTHS OF CONSTANT STUDYING...AVERAGING AROUND 8-10 HOURS PER DAY...BUT LETS NOT GET TO FAR AHEAD HERE...REGARDING MY JOB....I HAD A CHOICE TO EITHER GO TO A BIG FIRM AND PLAY FTECH FOR THE PARTNERS AND LEARN A MINIMUM AMOUNT...BUT MAKE GREAT PAY...AND WORK AROUNG 60-70 HOURS PER WEEK.....OR GO TO THE PUBLIC SECTOR...WHERE THE PAY IS MUCH LESS 45 -50K...BUT THE EXPERIENCE YOU GET IS PRICELESS...MY FIRST WEEK ON THE JOB I LITIGATED TWO CASES ON MY OWN...I AVERAGE AROUND 3-4 FULL LITIGATIONS A WEEK....SO AFTER BEING THERE FOR ABOUT 1.5 YEARS...I HAVE MORE COURT ROOM...AND LITIGATION EXPERIENCE ( I ALSO LITIGATE AT THE AGENCY LEVEL AS WELL AS ARBITRATIONS) THAN ALMOST EVERY ATTORNEY I KNOW MY AGE (29) ...I REALLY ENJOY WHAT I DO AND LIKE I SAID ONCE I LEAVE HERE THE EXPERIENCE I WILL HAVE IS WORTH MUCH MORE THAN MAKING 70K AND SITTING IN AN OFFICE SPELLCHECKING A BRIEF OR MOTION...COOZ
