If you love someone, set them free -- then if they come back to you, you'll know it was truly meant to be. If they don't come back, though, it's best to keep calling every couple of days, you know, just to see if they were "trying" to return but maybe got hit by a bus or something....

My girlfriend says that I'm going to hell because I don't go to church, but that's okay, because from what I've been able to figure out, they don't have church there either....

p.s. kudos to Prospector for writing this audio code.... LMAO. ;)

p.s.s. i removed the code, as monk has converted this thread into a reflections on our time at Jack's Place and I thought hello there's audio was more appropriate.... Jack, we truly are not worthy. :D

Back to Deep Thoughts.....

I've posted as well as seen some threads longing recently for the "good ol' days". Now that the College Football off-season has been upon us for a short while now, alot of folks in here have shuffled off into their "normal" lifestyle. It got me thinking about how lucky we are today that we've got a community together to enjoy with this time and share some laughs. Thanks Jack. I know it wasn't always like this. And still, that had me thinking even further about some of the stuff I've witnessed on this board since I discovered it. I figured I'd cast a few thoughts out there about the past year I've been around and see if anyone had some thoughts as well.

I remember starting to lurk on the internet around late '98. Man, I became addicted. Outside of my daily porn observances, I really got caught up playing Yahoo spades and chess everyday until I finally kicked the habit. I figured I could use the internet as an advantage to winning some money with the book. I found a few cyber places but not enough information being exchanged. My brother then alerted me to a place called MadJack's, where a guy named Nolan Dalla was on fire in the NFL. I had never seen anyone break down a game as well as he did. I began to lurk for about 4-5 months. I was not even intrigued with adding my own shit. I just enjoyed reading. It took a while to discern who knew their shit, who was moronic, and who knew how to cultivate conversion, and allow the brighter football guys with insight to expound. It was great fun and I look forward to next season. I remember how much I hated dr. freeze, how he would constantly rag on my Horns everyday. I think he was the reason I actually started posting. :)

It turned out, while a ton of the rah-rah shit existed, people were actually talking football over here and alot of good insight was being exchanged. It was good timing. I've met alot of good people on here since then. Bluemound Freak, fatdaddycool (Johhny Longwood), wareagle, Red Raider, freeze, Roger, wigs, TexasBC6, taoist, nhl8810, njsf25g, Global Trance, Time To Make $$$, Raymond1975, BigMack, just to name a few.

Today, MadJack's is one of the busiest sports boards in the country not named "ESPN.com" or "CBSSportsline.com". Some of the same original posters are still around over here. Then there are the ones who come and go like Rico the Wildman or BeantownJim, who are never short of a good laugh, although I'm sure they have since cleverly reappeared under a new name. Kinda spooky. It's become a fun board in many ways.

Nowadays, everyone who's been around for more than a year on this board wistfully longs for the "old days" at certain points. I guess it's human nature. Nonetheless, I enjoy the here and now. Right, wrong, or indifferent, I can state my point here and 10, 20, 50 people will step up to agree and explain why, or disagree and explain why. This board has numbers. You still have to deal with insipid posts from people like Eddie Haskell but there is still solid enjoyment and discussion anytime I want to see it over here.

The boards change and users change, but some things stay the same. I will still be fanatical about sports and so will about 100,000+ other unique IP addresses that visit this board every 4-5 weeks. I remember the initial fear I had of posting on this board. The first 25 posts were the hardest. "Am I the only dufus thinking this?". "How hard will I be mocked?". After a while I realized "I can be a buffoon and I will be mocked.". Nonetheless, man, I was hooked. I still am. I look forward to the upcoming football season discussions this year more than I ever have. Hope you guys do too.

Damn, all this writing and I let the joint go out!

Yes Monk, very good post.Wouldn't be nice that when some one posts a message, their picture is included.Maybe one day.
I have been surfing the net since 1999 when I stumbled upon another site,From there I learned about Madjacks.I too definately feel thay this is the best site by far.I think the general forum section is also top notch. The members here are basically friendly.Of course sometimes people have disagreements, but it is usually nipped in the bud rather quickly.I don't gamble as much as I used to,I guess that happens when you want to have a family life.At least that is how it is with me.Football is what I usually bet now,& even that is slowing down.I would like to spend more time on the net,but business prevents that.
People come & go on all of these sites. You like some more than others, but you tend to always meet new people.

Monk, please don't bogart that joint.Do you think your arms reach over to my neck of the woods?

...reflections on my time at Jack's Place....

...reflections on my time at Jack's Place....

...seeing how my friend, Felonious Monk, has converted this innocent little thread into reflections on our time here at Jack's Place, I thought I'd offer up my reflections on my time here....

...while at work one day, I was out surfing the internet looking for college football statistics and other handicapping information when I stumbled upon MadJack's somewhere around the fall of 1999. I don?t recall exactly how or where I found the link, but I do remember exactly what I thought to myself, ?Oh my God, what a goldmine!!!?

Since at that time I didn?t handicap anything except college football, I stayed throughout the bowl games and didn?t return until the next college football season?when I found myself asking, ?Now where did I put that damn bookmark for Jack?s Place?? That next year I had the best CFB season I had ever had thanks in part to some of the guys in this forum?that year I went unconscious and finished the season at almost 63%!!!! (?you can ask my local, he?ll tell ya it?s true.) I had never had and probably never will have another season where ?every bounce seemed to go my way.? But I digress?.

Although I didn?t register until the following football season, I had been lurking on this site long (like almost two years) before I ever got the nerve to post. (See Monk, you?re not the only one?.) There were so many people that were so knowledgeable that, in all honesty, I was a little intimidated...however, it didn't take long to get over that because unlike some of the other forums out there, Jack's Place is more like a family than any other....

I?ve witnessed this site go through many changes in the last few years, not simply in content and appearance, but in the members that come and go?. Some I have missed, and some?well, some not all that much. (?I will only mention one by name. Unholycow, where ya been man? ?cause I sure miss reading your chit, ya savvy?)

Here at Jack?s Place, people really care about each other outside of bankrolls and unconscious streaks?. Here at Jack?s Place, people come to share a wealth of information and opinions without all of the hidden agendas found at other forums?. Here at Jack?s Place, I have found a boatload of people from different backgrounds and geographical locations that all share common bonds?. Here at Jack?s Place, I have found a family?. (?a family of degenerate gamblers, but MY family nonetheless!!!)

Since I registered in November of 2001, I have made MadJack?s my homepage and it is the first place I go whenever I log onto the internet?.

Keep up the great work, Jack. You have built something here that you should be proud of?and I, for one, hope that MadJack?s will be here for many years to come?.

p.s. Dammit, Monk, I can hardly wait until college football season and, by the way, I let the damn thing go out too?. LMFAO

You guys are good! I am just an idiot with a lot of free time at work and a keyboard! But I have to agree with what you fellas have said above. I am too addicted to Jack's. I can not lie, I check this board everyday and can not remember when this was not the first page that pops up on my computer every morning! I love it. It gives me an outlet to talk to some cool folks, Felonious Monk, Wareagle, KMAC, Bama6895, Fatdaddycool, Bigmack, Taoist, all you guys are in so many ways similar to one another yet so different! I mean when I first came around I thought these guys are just a bunch of old gamblers. But I found over time you guys are all either the same age as me, the same social backgrounds and so on! It was quite suprising. I mean hell I feel I've made myself a few new friends that I would never have possibly been able to meet with out the help of this place! Take for instance, I found talking to bama6895 that he needed a new local, well I just happened to know a guy that takes a bet or two and wammo, now I make 10% of whatever Bama loses! Isn't life great here at jacks? And like Wareagle, I probably passed this guy on the sidewalks of Auburn University 1000 times while I was in School there, but really never met the guy until just of late through Madjacks. Kick Ass Jack......Kick Ass......!

Over the last year or so I have tried to make a laugh or two fall your way and inform you slightly. I hope we can all remain around here for many years to come and spend many more countless hours gambling, drinking, smoking, and Telling litte stories back and forth to one another. I am sure to be around!
