Back to Deep Thoughts.....
I've posted as well as seen some threads longing recently for the "good ol' days". Now that the College Football off-season has been upon us for a short while now, alot of folks in here have shuffled off into their "normal" lifestyle. It got me thinking about how lucky we are today that we've got a community together to enjoy with this time and share some laughs. Thanks Jack. I know it wasn't always like this. And still, that had me thinking even further about some of the stuff I've witnessed on this board since I discovered it. I figured I'd cast a few thoughts out there about the past year I've been around and see if anyone had some thoughts as well.
I remember starting to lurk on the internet around late '98. Man, I became addicted. Outside of my daily porn observances, I really got caught up playing Yahoo spades and chess everyday until I finally kicked the habit. I figured I could use the internet as an advantage to winning some money with the book. I found a few cyber places but not enough information being exchanged. My brother then alerted me to a place called MadJack's, where a guy named Nolan Dalla was on fire in the NFL. I had never seen anyone break down a game as well as he did. I began to lurk for about 4-5 months. I was not even intrigued with adding my own shit. I just enjoyed reading. It took a while to discern who knew their shit, who was moronic, and who knew how to cultivate conversion, and allow the brighter football guys with insight to expound. It was great fun and I look forward to next season. I remember how much I hated dr. freeze, how he would constantly rag on my Horns everyday. I think he was the reason I actually started posting.
It turned out, while a ton of the rah-rah shit existed, people were actually talking football over here and alot of good insight was being exchanged. It was good timing. I've met alot of good people on here since then. Bluemound Freak, fatdaddycool (Johhny Longwood), wareagle, Red Raider, freeze, Roger, wigs, TexasBC6, taoist, nhl8810, njsf25g, Global Trance, Time To Make $$$, Raymond1975, BigMack, just to name a few.
Today, MadJack's is one of the busiest sports boards in the country not named "ESPN.com" or "CBSSportsline.com". Some of the same original posters are still around over here. Then there are the ones who come and go like Rico the Wildman or BeantownJim, who are never short of a good laugh, although I'm sure they have since cleverly reappeared under a new name. Kinda spooky. It's become a fun board in many ways.
Nowadays, everyone who's been around for more than a year on this board wistfully longs for the "old days" at certain points. I guess it's human nature. Nonetheless, I enjoy the here and now. Right, wrong, or indifferent, I can state my point here and 10, 20, 50 people will step up to agree and explain why, or disagree and explain why. This board has numbers. You still have to deal with insipid posts from people like Eddie Haskell but there is still solid enjoyment and discussion anytime I want to see it over here.
The boards change and users change, but some things stay the same. I will still be fanatical about sports and so will about 100,000+ other unique IP addresses that visit this board every 4-5 weeks. I remember the initial fear I had of posting on this board. The first 25 posts were the hardest. "Am I the only dufus thinking this?". "How hard will I be mocked?". After a while I realized "I can be a buffoon and I will be mocked.". Nonetheless, man, I was hooked. I still am. I look forward to the upcoming football season discussions this year more than I ever have. Hope you guys do too.
Damn, all this writing and I let the joint go out!
