Anybody catch this show on FSN?
I usually watch the Sports Lists mainly cause I think summer sanders is hot and its interesting.
But at #5 they have Billie Jean King beating Bobby Riggs. I dont mind this being on the list but the commentators on the show talking aboutit pissed me off. My favorite quotes of one of the female commentators was "This really showed that women can compete with men on equal footing". ............... Ok I dont know what this is showing that a guy who has been retired from Pro Tennis for almost 20!!!!! years and finisihed the first set with his jacket on!!!!! and gave Billy Jean King (who was at the very peak of her career) an extra side of the tennis court to play into, how in the hell does that equate to "women can compete on EQUAL footing".
Yes women can play sports very well, but to say that event showed that women can compete with men equally in sports is absurd. Im sure Diana Turrasi vs Jerry West would show that women can compete with men in basketball too.
Another commentator says " Sure He was a lil bit older, but she still just beat his butt"...... ummm a lil bit older? He was 55!!!!!!
and he still made a match out of it.
Sorry to rant I just think that this event was way blown out of proportion in its significance.
